Willow's POV
No one really spoke while we rode. Luz had decided not to ride beside the carriage on King. Her and Amity sat in the back of the carriage. I could hear them chattering but couldn't pinpoint a single subject. Their conversation was all over the place. First it was about the beauty of the area, then they play flirted or really flirted. It was hard to tell. Now they were on a another topic of a midnight ride. Of course I couldn't hear every detail due to the horses' hooves stomping against the dirt path and the clattering of our supplies.
I glanced over at Gus who was napping. He had taken his tunic before napping. Besides from his light snoring, the horses stomping hooves, Amity and Luz's conversations and the clattering of supplies. It was quiet even if it didn't seem quiet.
Spotting the end of the tree line ending, I called back at my fellow assassin and the princess. "Hey. The forest line is ending," pausing, I glanced at the map to see where we were. "We're coming up on Johnstown." I called.
"Alright! We can stop there and get Amity some clothes." I heard Luz call back.
I heard Amity make a comment I couldn't quite here, but whatever it was it made Luz laugh. Their joking made me feel lonely, the two seemed to have an automatic connection. Even though Luz threatened to kill the brown-tealed haired princess. It barely dented their relationship.. To be fair. Amity did realize that she would die if she went. It kinda of reminded me on how me and Yia met.. It made me miss her, made me miss the connection me and her had..
A loud crack made me freeze up. Jerking on the reins, the three horse stopped quickly. Behind me I heard Luz and Amity gasp and the supplies jerk in our carriage.
"Hey! What's the big deal!" Luz hissed. I could see out of the corner of my eye, Luz came to my side, Amity limping closely behind. "You nearly knocked us off."
"I heard something." I muttered.
"We're in the woods. You hear a lot of noises." Amity reasoned, her golden eyes blinking worryingly at me.
Luz crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow. "Besides, we didn't hear anything."
"Yeah? Well maybe if you two weren't flirting you would've." I snapped.
Seeing Amity and Luz's face lighting up to a bright pink made me feel better. "But I'm serious! I heard something!"
Luz seemed to realize how worried I was. "Alright. Me and Gus will check it out. Watch over Amity. You have your weapons right?"
I moved my trench coat out of the way revealing a shiny, silvery dagger. The brown haired assassin nodded and made her way to Gus. Grabbing his tunic she tossed it in his face. "Wake up sleepy head!" Gus woke up with a hard gasp, his leather tunic landing in his lap. "Come on . Willow needs us to check something out."
Gus groaned.. Slipping in tunic on and grabbing his sword. Him and Luz disappeared into the underbrush.
I climbed out of my seat and glanced around. Turning to Amity, I eyed her leg. "How's your leg?"
Amity shrugged. "It stings, but I can walk. Though it requires a limp and a bit of pain."
I nodded. "Walking will help stretch your muscles. Though do be careful. Try not to make extreme movements. Your wound is closing and we don't want it to open back up." I explained. Suddenly another loud crack came from the woods. My gaze locked onto the bushes. Prepared, I snatched my dagger out of the patch on my leg. "Who's there." I snarled.
Out of the corner of my eye I could see Amity staring a bush, eyes wide. "It's over there..." she whispered.
Carefully stepping over, I held my dagger out. I'm scared.. It wasn't hard to tell if you were close. My hand was shaking, I was sweating, but I was prepared to protect Amity. Grabbing my other dagger quickly, I passed it to Amity. Amity blinked at it before shooting me a quick confused glance, but she seemed to catch on quickly. She copied my stance.
The bush rustled once again. My heart was so loud I could barely hear my own thoughts. I haven't had to use my daggers in a long time. The creature leaped out of the bush. I froze seeing... A small white rabbit. I relaxed my stance. The little rabbit nibbled at the roots of a goldenrod plant.
"You were right.. It was just an animal.." I muttered. "That meant I sent Luz and Gus into the woods without a real reason." I growled at myself. Silently cursing at myself, Amity nudged me.
"There's something out here," she whispered. "I don't know where."
Rustling of a bush told me Amity was correct. Whipping around I could see the faint outline of a hood. I growled, "We know you're out there! We have weapons! Come out!" I hissed.
My heart stopped hearing clapping. Out emerged a cloaked person. A mask cover her face, but she had bright green eyes and her cloak had a symbol... Symbol of the Owl! She's one of Eda's assassins and one of our fellow assassins... She was clapping. A crossbow oh her back.
"Oh Willow... Sweet innocent Willow." Said the assassin. "You wouldn't kill me would you? You don't kill. You heal. You haven't killed in a long time."
I narrowed my eyes. "I may be rusty but I won't be scared to kill you!" I hissed.
The figure stepped close. Her face inches from mine. My first reaction was to slash. So that's what I did... The persons eyes when the blade met her skin. She jumped back, but not before I left a nasty gash on her stomach.
"Don't try me you bitch." I snarled. The figure pulled her hood off, her blonde hair was familiar, then came off her mask. I could hardly believe my eyes. "Yia?" I gasped.
Amity didn't lower her guard. She stared suspiciously at Yia. The dagger I gave her still up high.
"I thought you would been able to tell it was me..." Yia growled.
"I'm sorry! I didn't mean to hurt you. I didn't know it was you!" I whimpered. "What are you doing here?"
Yia rolled her eyes. "I'm here to finish a mission." Her gaze locked on Amity. "I was ordered to kill the princess.. And I plan to keep my promise."
Amity stared wildly at her. "Don't come near me! I'll use my dagger!" She snapped.
"Oh please. You barely know how to use that thing, let alone hurt somebody with it." Yia growled.
"Yia you can't kill Amity..." I declared. "She's with us."
"Oh what. Will Luz be sad I killed the girl she's flirting with?" Yia mocked. "Luz should've already killed her like she was going to."
"How long have you been following us! Amity barked.
Yia shrugged. She looked at me and with a creepy smile, she said, "Willow, you understand? Owl assassins keep their end of bargain... We finish the job." In a flash Yia had Amity pinned against the carriage, Amity swinging her dagger wildly around. She landed a good cut on Yia's face. But that only made Yia more determined.
Stuck in the middle... I starred at the ground. Yia was right.. A Owl assassin always holds up their end on the bargain... But Amity needed us and dare I say it.. Was our friend...
Finally deciding where I stood. I gripped my dagger..
