Chapter 19

Viney's POV

The cold weather was almost unbearable. Our trip was long and boring. Emira still had trouble riding a horse and fighting, but it was better than nothing.

In the distant, I could see the kingdom of Cordova come into view. I was ready to sleep in a nice warm bed. It would be nicer than the cold hard ground.

Jerbo ahead of us and Edric just behind us. Barcus was riding in the back of the cart, taking a nap..

It didn't take long to reach Cordova. The whole Kingdom seemed to be buzzing about a new queen. We were going to stick around her for a day or two before continuing to Raven's Point.

"I can't wait to meet the new Queen! I heard she's just as beautiful as her mother!" I heard one man say.

"Maybe I could be the king if I got to her." Another laughed.

The first one snorted. "Doubt it Dude. I heard that she's with a previous princess.. all everyone can talk about it how we might have two queens in good time!"

Normally I wasn't into gossip, but this interested me. I pulled the cart to a stop. "What's all this news?" I asked.

Emira gave me a confused stare, but I pushed it aside.

The two guys looked at me. "The queen and king are stepping down for the queen's daughter to be queen."

"Don't you have to be royal blood?" I asked.

The first guy shook his head. "Nope! If you're the first born or the oldest of your group of siblings you become the next queen or king. Since Luz is the oldest out of her two siblings she the next Queen." He explained.

I paused and shared a glance with Jerbo. "I'm sorry, did you say Luz?"

The second guy nodded. "Her name is Luz Noceda.. she arrived with a group of people." He said.

"Including her lover.. Amity Blight." Said the first guy. "There's a rumor going around that the two will be married and rule together."

I looked over at Jerbo. "Thank you." I muttered. Starting the cart again.

Emira's face gave way to a smile. "Amity is here! We have to go see her!" She giggled.

Edric nodded eagerly. "Yes!"

"Edric.. They said that Amity came with Luz... The next queen.. Meaning they're most likely in the castle..." Jerbo said. "If we tell them, 'oh! We're assassins who have worked with Luz.' We'd be arrested on the spot!"

Edric looked down at the ground.

"What is Luz and them doing here and why is she the next queen!" I faltered. "They're suppose to be at Ravens point!"

Jerbo shrugged. "Maybe shes royalty... I mean. She never talked about her past." He murmured. "There can be a lot of stuff we don't know about her."

I loud bark made me flinch. I looked behind me. Barcus was up. He jumped out of our cart and took off. I stared for a second.

"Edric get off of Prince and watch the cart!" I yelled.

The former prince jumped off of his horse and I took his place. "Stay here!" Jerbo ordered before we ran after our dog.

Barcus was running full speed. "What has gotten into him!" I snapped.

Jerbo shrugged. "I have no idea."

I realized he was booking it to the castle. We had to stop him before he could get there. We reached the castle... Though the gates were closed, Barcus squeeze through the bars. I pulled Prince to a stop.

"Stay here. I'll go after him!" I jumped off Prince. Walking up to the gate. I began to slip through the bars. I sucked in my breath until I was through.

I ran. I realized I had no idea where he went..

Then I heard barking. I followed after the barking. I could hear voices as well. When I turned the corner, I froze seeing Luz standing there petting of Barcus.

"Barcus what are you doing here." She laughed.

Barcus barked loudly and licked her hand.

I backed up to hide but backed into a knight. She had short black hair and icy blue eyes. She grabbed my shirt collar. "How did you get in here." She hissed.

I winced at her grip. "My dog ran in here!"

"This one?" I froze hearing Luz's smooth voice.

I looked back at her and her eyes went wide "VINEY!?" She gasped.

The knight looks up at Luz. "You know her?"

"Yeah.. We worked together...." Luz muttered. "We kinda... Grew up together after I ran away..." she didn't seem to proud of what she was saying.

The knight released her grip and nodded. "I'll leave you two to talk..." she turned away and walked off.

Luz smiled as she walked away, after the knight was gone her smile faded. "What the hell are you doing here!"

I blinked at her. "Not happy to see me?" I asked.

Luz sighed. "I'm glad to see you.. I just... I wasn't expecting it..." She put Barcus down.

"I could ask the same thing... What are you doing here? You're supposed to be at Raven's Point..." I reminded her.

"It's a long story that I don't have time to go into. Is Jerbo here?" She asked.

"Yes.. And so are your girlfriend's siblings." I commented.

Luz didn't have much of a reaction. "First off. She's not my girlfriend... And second off. What!"

"Eda ordered me and Jerbo to bring them to Ravens Point to reunite with their sister." I told her..

We then stayed quiet for a few minutes.. I finally asked the question on my mind. "Why are you the next queen."

She hesitated. "Because my mom married the king and I'm the oldest of my siblings..." she said quickly.

"What! But you're not royal blood."

She shrugged. "It doesn't matter." She lifted a finger in the air and drew out a quick symbol. I blinked at her. Wondering how she did that. I then noticed under her sleeves her arms were glowing. She touched the symbol and muttered something under her breath. I heard a scratching noise. I looked behind me and could see the gate opening.

"HOW DID YOU!"

Luz smiled at me. "Magic my dear."

I could see Jerbo's confused face.. This was going to be interesting...
