Audrey's POV
The air was freezing, though, I don't know what I was expecting, it was the middle of the knight and snowing.. Of course, we were in the south so I had a huge doubt we would actually get any snow.
I was tired. I had lost so much in this past few weeks... My dad, my best friend, and now my sister was hurt... Badly. Anger built up. I wanted to scream, yell, something to get my feelings out.. I didn't have no one to talk to... As much as I love my brother and mother, I don't trust my brother enough, and my mom is still grieving over the lost of everything. I trusted my sister enough, but she was out of the question.
I flinched hearing the door to my room shut. I looked behind me seeing a girl with strawberry blonde hair. "Amyra?"
Amyra flinched looking over at me. "Ohh.... Hey Audrey.."
I noticed the knight was holding a piece of paper. "What's that?"
Amyra looked down at the paper. Her cheeks turned to a pale pink and her eyes darted from side to side. "Oh! Um!" She quickly stuffed the note in her pocket and laughed nervously, "it's nothing!"
I narrowed my eyes. "Amyra, I know you better than that."
Amyra sighed, "it's nothing really. But I need to talk to you." The knight walked over and sat down on my railing. "Audrey.. I'm sorry for how I treated you... I was upset, and I was... I was ashamed after I yelled at you and couldn't find the right words to talk to you... I also had a lot of other feelings going on...." The pale pink on her cheeks turned into a darker shade of pink.
I blinked at her affectionately. "Amyra, it's fine... I should've reached out to you as well. I had just lost so much..." I tried my best to not cry. "My father is dead and my sister is injured..." Tears fell down my cheeks. I covered my face trying not to show myself crying.
I felt the warmth of my friend wrap her arms around me. She smelled of trees and grass, it was soothing..
Neither of us spoke. I just wanted to sit there in my friend's arms. Slowly, we sat down and leaned against the balcony railing. In that moment, I didn't feel cold or the icy chill to the air.
"So that note, it was a love letter..." Amyra chuckled.
I pulled away from the knight. "REALLY!" I gasped. "For who!"
Amyra shook her head. "Ehhh, doesn't matter! I was coming to talk to you about.. My... Crush...." She drew out a few words like she always did when she was nervous. "I was going to tell them I liked them..."
I smiled widely. "Well... You should tell them!"
"Alright...." Amyra hesitated. "I like you!" She yelped.
I blinked at her. "That was perfect! Just like that!" I grinned. "You'll do great!"
Amyra blinked at me before face palming. "Thanks..." she groaned.
I have no idea why she did that, but it was pretty funny.
Amyra smiled at me. "Hey, why lesbians never finish their jokes?" She chuckled.
I slightly cocked my head to the side. "Why?"
The knight was silent, a sly smirk still on her face.
I stared at her before realizing. "OH! You're- I-" I couldn't get my words out. Amyra began to snicker. I stared at her before laughing. "You're such an idiot!" I laughed.
"And you're a dork!" Amyra giggled.
I sighed, "I've missed this."
Amyra nodded. "Me too. I'm glad we're friends again."
I smiled lightly, "best friends."
"AMYRA LOOK OUT!" I yelped.
Amyra looked back at me. "WHAT THE!" She fell backwards to dodge the falcon. As it flew past her with great speed, she stared at me. "WHAT WAS THAT!"
I reached the knight and bent over to catch my breath. "That... That was a falcon." I gasped for air.
"Really? I thought it was a mouse!" Amyra said with heavy sarcasm.
I rolled my eyes and reached my hand out. "No need for the sarcasm." I muttered. I noticed the knight had fallen into some mud. I grabbed her with my other hand and pulled. I was able to pull her up and she nearly fell back down. When she was able to stand up straight, our faces were inches away.
The knight sighed and sat down on a rock. I looked around a spotted a log, so I sat down and got comfy. I looked at the mud, where a piece of paper laid.
Amyra reached over and picked up the paper.
"What's that?" I asked.
Amyra shrugged and handed me the letter. The name at the top was smudged with mud so the name wasn't readable. "Would you like to go on a date? -Amyra."
I reread the letter over and over. "You were going to ask her out!" I gasped.
Amyra nodded. "No point now though.. I'll have to try again later." She muttered.
A pang of jealousy washed over me, I wasn't entirely sure why, but it did. "She must be great to have taken your heart.." I half heartily joked.
"Oh yeah. She's great." Amyra sighed. "She's beautiful and kind. If I could I would give her the whole world!" The way this girl had Amyra swooning had me.. Upset. I felt like I was loosing my best friend!
"Surely she's not that great." I forcibly laughed.
Amyra looked at me, a sly smile on her face. "Are you jealous?"
I blinked at her. "PSSH! As if!" I laughed nervously. "Why would I be jealous! We're just friends." It felt like I was lying even if I wasn't..
Amyra's cheeks turned to a pink as she laughed. She had an adorable laugh.. I chuckled nervously as I felt my cheeks burning.
"You're such dork." Amyra laughed.
I smiled weakly and looked away. "Yeah.. I know.."
Amyra scoffed. "You're not going to call me an idiot? You always call me an idiot when I call you a dork."
I hesitated. What was wrong with me today. "Sorry. I'm just jumbled up.. Today my sister is suppose to wake up.." I told her. It wasn't a full lie, but it wasn't the whole truth either...
Amyra nodded, "yeah, I get it." She muttered. She glanced up at the sun. "Hmm. I need to go. I've got stuff to do... I'm going with my mom to the barracks..."
I tensed up. "But! You can't go!" I whined. "You'll be gone for days!"
Amyra blinked at me. "Audrey, this is a big opportunity for me. My mom sees me worthy enough to join her on an important mission!"
"But.... I don't want you to go..." I muttered. "I don't want to loose you..."
Amyra blinked at me. "Audrey, you're not loosing me, I'm just going away for a bit. I'll be back as soon as you know it."
"THATS WHAT MY DAD SAID!" I cried.
Amyra stared. "What are you-"
"When my dad got sick and went to the infirmary, he said he'd be back. AND NOW HE'S DEAD!" I sobbed, tears trickled down my cheeks.
"Audrey... I..."
I squeeze my sleeves. "I don't want to loose someone else... Especially someone as special to me as you!" I whimpered.
Amyra hesitated. "Audrey, I won't be going to war. I'm to young, you have to at least be 18 or older, I'm only 13, I still have 5 years." she stood up from her rock and walked over. "I'm just going to help set things up."
I jumped up from where I was sitting and hugged my friend tightly. "Please be careful! I know it's selfish but please be careful." I dug my face into her neck.
Amyra hugged me back. I could feel her hand against the back of my head. "I will... I promise I will..."
