Audrey's POV

Amyra stared at me. "What do you mean?"

I couldn't meet her eye contact.. "I just.. The thought just crossed my mind." I muttered.

Amyra shrugged. "So what if we're not? I know a few people who are soulmates yet they're happily married.. My grandparents weren't soulmates, yet they had four kids and stayed marry until death.." She obviously wasn't as frazzled as I was... And it kinda bothered me..

"So you wouldn't care if we weren't soulmates?"

Amyra shook her head. "No, I wouldn't. I mean, sure I'd be upset.. but that doesn't change anything." She glanced down at me. "I don't believe in the whole, 'soulmates' thing."

"How could you not believe in it! There's so much proof! Like Luz and Amity! Or My mom and my dad!" My voice was slightly choked at the mention of my dad.

Amyra blinked at me as if she couldn't believe how passionate I was about this. She climbed down from the railing.

"Is it really that big of a deal?" She asked.

"Yes! It is!" I snapped. I'm getting frustrated!

"What will you do if we're not?" Amyra asked crossing her arms. "I'm 13 and you're 12. I get that we were raised to be a lot more mature then other kids in the kingdom, but we're still children."

"I'm 12 and 3/4 quarters!" I argued. "My birthday is in a few weeks."

"That doesn't change the fact you're still a child." She replied. "If you care so much about the whole 'soulmate' thing. Then kiss me. Kiss me right now." She muttered, narrowing her eyes. "You said you want you're first kiss to be special, but if you're so focused on wether we're soulmates or not, then kiss me."

I can tell she obviously didn't believe I would..

I grabbed her shirt collar and pulled her close, and our lips met. It took me a moment to actually pull away. When I pulled away, I could see the shock on her face, her eyes were wide.

I looked down at my runes.... Nothing...

Amyra backed up a bit. "You... You actually did it!" She sputtered.

Maybe, something wasn't right.. Surely it wasn't true. I looked to Amyra. She must've noticed my runes not lighting up..

"Audrey- does it really matter? Besides.. Maybe it needs more than a peck. After all Luz's and Amity's runes didn't glow until they had a more...." she paused to think. "Intimate, kiss?" She said hesitantly..

My heart dropped. It was like there was a lump in my throat. "But..."

"Or maybe there's a certain age." Amyra's tone told me she wasn't sure.. But it was sweet she was trying to come up with a good reason on why my runes weren't working.

I looked up at Amyra, hot tears running down my cheeks. "Amyra, we're not soulmates! And- and.."

If we were Luz and Amity, one of them would kiss the other to keep them quiet, but Amyra did what she always did...

She grabbed my hand and pulled me into a hug. "Audrey, I don't need to see runes glow to know that we're meant for each other! Romantically or not. You're not only my best friend, but my girlfriend as well. I try to avoid saying this, but I do love you." She cooed.

I froze.. I can forget how comforting her words are until she uses them. I wrapped my arms around her.

"You're so cliché." I half heartily laughed.

"I know.." she chuckled.

"Would it be cheesy if I wanted to kiss you.. Properly?" I asked. I prepared myself for rejection.

"I don't think so.. But I think it's best we wait for the right moment." She muttered.

"I can't believe I wasted my first kiss on finding out wether my girlfriend is my soulmate." I whimpered.

"Eh.. You're stupid.. I wasn't that surprised." Amyra laughed.

I pushed her away. "God, you jerk!" I snapped, though it was difficult to hold back my laughter.

Amyra stuck her tongue out at me. "Heh. Take that." She giggled.

It was nice to see a genuine smile on her face compared to her fake one from earlier.

I made a quick snow spell, making a snow ball, I stuffed it in her face.

"HEY!" She began to wipe snow off of her face. "You're going to pay!" She laughed evilly.

"This is the moment where I must go." I laughed.

I backed away before running away in a full blown run. It didn't take long before I heard Amyra shout.

"THIS ISNT FAIR! I GOT CRUTCHES!"

"ALLS FAIR IN LOVE IN WAR!" I shouted back.

I slammed into someone. "OOF!" I fell back and landed hard on the floor. I looked up at the person I ran into. "Gah! Sorry.. Oh.. Hey Natalia."

Natalia blinked at me, a sinister smile appeared on her face. "Perfect... Just the person I was looking for..."
