Episode 69: S c h e m e

"Breakfast!" Satan's chirpy voice rang from outside the room. Sera rustled awake, sitting up on the bed as she watched Aiko already up and awake.

"Morning." She mumbled, rubbing her eyes and stumbling out of the bed.

"Good morning," he threw her a dashing smile and ran over to give her a hug. Sera looked up at him and smiled, but the nagging thoughts of last night's talk crept on to her again.

--

"What do you mean, kill your father?"

"Isn't that what Min wants?" Aiko smirked with a coy expression. "You know what Sera. I really don't like how he's using you for his own terms."

"But it wasn't his own terms. I did agree with his plan at first...but--"

"Now you regret it, right?" He continued her sentence. "And he's threatening you because of that."

"Well, I wouldn't say threatening. He wouldn't do that. I mean, Min's the one who saved me from that Vampires and he's the one who revealed the memories that were suppressed. I only know about the truth because of him. And even after that, he's helped me out with a lot of things. Honestly, I owe him a lot."

"But think about it. How would he feel if we suddenly go to him and back out now? Min's an angel, Sera. His duty is the driving motivation to his existence."

"How do you know that?"

"Because I was also born with some understanding of that duty." He explained. "My mother gave birth to me when she was half-angel, so I partly identify with that but only to a limited extent. I'm not controlled by the concept."

"So you're saying that regardless of what we decide, he's going to carry out the plan."

"Yes. And because I don't want you to do something you might regret, I want us to meet him for now and pretend like we're still in on the plan. Sera, I'm much stronger than I used to be now. I can control my powers, and Grandpa's been helping me a lot with that. I've discovered things I didn't know I could do, and it's really incredible." His eyes sparkled with excitement that almost seemed a little demented.

"But still. This is an angel from the Holy Trinity that we're talking about. I heard that they're the same people who placed the curse on your dad and uncles so many years ago. How are we supposed to face people who seem to have so much power? Aiko, I'm scare--"

"And I'm telling you," he grabbed hold of her hand. "I have so much more power. Do you want to see?"  She blinked in confusion. "Think of something that you want right now."

"I...I don't really know..." she got caught off guard.

"It can be anything. Just think of it. Go on. Oh, wait--" he took out his wallet. "First, count how much money I have."

"Twenty dollars?"  She scoffed and rolled her eyes. "You're so rich." He smiled back and nodded proudly, completely missing the sarcasm in her tone.

"Go on, now. Think of what you want."

She looked down with a cheeky smile. "Fine. I got it now."

"I know." He smirked. Sera blinked. The hand that she thought she was holding was now carrying a box of fried chicken instead.

"Fried chicken?" Aiko laughed. "Really?" She flushed red but immediately stood up from the edge of the bed and grabbed the hot box from him.
