Episode 28: P o r t a l T o H e l l
"What about my mom?!" Sera insisted.
"Can't you just quickly deal with her already?" Jin said with irritation. "I don't know if this is the start of some sort of rebellious phase, but she was definitely much cuter and quieter before!"
"Let go of me, you perverted pink demon!" Sera grumbled, pinching his wrist while trying to twist out her own.
"Stop that! I won't hesitate to completely refrain you from moving, permanently." He growled back, eyes glowing pink.
"Who's Moon Jena?" I blinked with confusion, watching Solmi and her mom having a moment of epiphany with each other.
"She was a legend among the demon slayers! She's slain over one thousand demons by the age of eighteen. And when her little girl was born, we attended their family's oath ritual. But soon after that, we gradually drifted away. I've only heard rumors, but they said her husband had died and she was on a mission to track down the demon that killed him. I never expected to meet her daughter here. Solmi, can't you feel it?" Her mother suddenly asked. "Doesn't the mark on your back feel a burn?"
Solmi shut her eyes, furrowing her brows together, and nodded. "A little."
"She's talking about Savannah's pure magic, but you'll only feel a little of it in the state you're in right now." Pride explained it to Solmi.
The markings? Did the energy borrowed from Savannah resonate when another demon slayer was nearby?
"I asked a question! What about my mom?" Sera looked back at Solmi's mother again, this time with a furious temperament I wasn't used to. "Do you know where she is? They told me she wasn't dead. But I don't believe it." She glared at every single person in the room, even me. "Everyone here lies."
"Sera!" I blinked with shock. She wasn't wrong, we've kept her away from this mess for far too long and it was only bound for it to come raining down on us all at once.
"Don't." She gritted her teeth and glared at me. "Especially you."
"What did I do?" I scoffed, furrowing my brows with confusion. The guilt was strangling me on the inside.
What did I do? What the hell did I do?
I'll tell you what I did.
I dragged this girl into this whole mess just because I thought she couldn't survive on her own based on my prior expertise. Now I'm only realizing that it would've been better to have given her a normal-ish life with the occasional school bullying than whatever the hell we were going through right now.
And it showed. When I looked into her face, when I noticed how much she's grown since we've come here, I finally realized that she's not the same clueless and quiet girl. Anyone was bound to pick up on what was happening, especially if their body was a direct host to a War Angel.
Yet, I couldn't admit my wrongdoings. Because at the same time I knew that the choices I had made were for her own good. And seeing her have a mental break down when we were only trying to protect her had me a little bit on the defensive side. But perhaps, we shouldn't have kept things away from her. Maybe she deserved the truth. If she was going to live with us, she probably should've had that "long talk" way earlier.
"You all lied to me! You think I don't know?" Her fists trembled, breaking out of her introverted character. "I...I know there's someone using my body, and just now it happened too! I want to know the truth, I want to know what's going on. Right now!"
