Episode 9: D e a d T o M e

"Get that out of my face!" I yelled, kicking the tray of food away from me.

"But...but..." the maid stammered. I knew it wasn't her fault that she was required to send food, but it also wasn't my fault she was so persistent. Having her stand in front of me and begging for an hour was enough to have my anger redirected at her.

"LEAVE ME ALONE! JUST GO!" If she would just leave, I'd be able to take the pill and mask it in the food, but her orders were to wait until I had finished all my food.

There wasn't any particular appetite left in me after V put that annoying spy bracelete on me, but I had to figure out ways to swallow the pill without being obvious. If I could just gain some strength secretly, then I'd be able to do something about the situation I'm in.

Skipping "family" mealtime didn't work as well as I thought it would.

"Please! You need to eat it!" The maid begged me. She probably couldn't care less if I ate or starved to death. The fear bulging out of her eyes wasn't out of concern. It was more or less because of him.

"Get out of my room." I grit my teeth, probably looking as rabid and crazy as I could get. I've been striking against many things, including a decent shower. All I've done ever since was sit right where I was sulking and cursing V out.

"You cannot act like this when Sera comes back. A human girl should not see this behavior." She frowned. "You must eat. It is an order."

"An order from your goddamn King! But not mine!" I hissed. "Go away already!" With one hard jerk, I accidentally toppled the tray over, startling her.

"What...what have you done!" She panicked and dropped down, scooping as much food as she could back on to the tray. "This won't solve anything. I'll just be sent again!" She warned me before leaving the room.

As soon as I heard the click of the door, I quickly grabbed a clot of rice she hadn't pick up and secretly shoved two blue pills inside of it, chewing and swallowing it down as fast as I could. She didn't mention anything about overdosing, so if I take two at a time, maybe it'll work better. I'd also have to risk being caught less if I finish them quickly.

Sitting here alone with nothing to do was quick to drive me into deep thought. I hadn't ever thought so hard about something since my final exams when I was still a normal college student. If you had told me that a few years later I'd be living with demons and pregnant with a tri-breed child, then I probably would have laughed and referred you to my boss' clinic.

Times like those was when everything was normal. When I still knew little to nothing about the darknesses lurking in the shadows of our world.

My heart almost stopped when the door opened again. This time it wasn't the maid, it was V himself, holding the tray in his hands.

The silence of the room was only broken by his shuffling and the violent clank of the tray he tossed in front of me.

"Eat."

Was I some kind of dog? What sort of treatment was this?
I turned my head away and stayed quiet.

I tried to not look up when he crouched down to my level.

"Eat." He repeated, this time with more heavy emphasis on the 'e'.

Slowly, I lifted my face up and possibly placed on the smuggest look I could pull off. Tilting my chin up, I whispered, "you can take this food and stick it up your ass."

His brow tilted up and the muscles around his jaw tensed. I knew I was pushing his buttons, and I liked that. He deserved it. He deserved to know that I wasn't going to accept his unspoken apology over some food either.
