Chapter 40

I stand with my blades at the ready, Erwin stands with us on the wall. He announces "Alright, it's broad daylight and it won't be long before that thing gets here!" He points to Rod Reiss. He continues "All of you on this side go with Levi and set up the explosives on the right side!" I nod and run off with my group, we hurriedly grab the crates and break them open before stuffing the explosives in barrels.

Hanji brings a massive net on our side and sets it down so we can prepare our barrels to be put in, I think 'I wonder how Y/n's doing...' right as I thought that a pair of boots enter my vision as I'm kneeling on the ground, I look up slowly and see the woman of my dreams.

I stand up with wide eyes and say "Y/n! What are you doing here!?" she has a big smile and says "I'm fighting with you, this time I'm not missing out!" I grab her wrists and say "You're not ready to fight right now! You're fresh out of the hospital at the moment!" her smile turns to a smirk and she says "Just watch" Y/n takes her hands out of my grasp and Erwin lays a hand on her shoulder.

Erwin says "She wants to help Eren" I growl "She hasn't used her titan form in a while what if something goes wrong?" Erwin says "Y/n says she's basically a ticking time bomb at the moment, if she doesn't transform soon she might make a bigger mistake", I ask Y/n "What do you mean ticking time bomb?" she says "When I got shot I had to make sure I didn't transform automatically because my titan form is unstable like that".

I sigh and say "Fine... Go help Eren but I won't forgive you for this, you're putting yourself on a literal deadline".

(Y/n's POV)

Rod Reiss is inching closer and I turn to Eren. He smiles confidently and I say "Ready to throw explosives into that fat fucks mouth?" he laughs nervously at me and says "Language". Rod digs his nails into the wall and starts climbing up, Eren and I grow serious.

Erwin yells "READY!" we all stand ready. Rod's face appears over the wall and Eren remembers something, he stares at Rod Reiss and says "This is just like that day when the Colossal Titan attacked my district..." I nod remembering when I was there in the past:

'I was walking with Mikasa, Armin, Eren on that day when the wall burst, my mother let me go to Wall Maria for the day and the Colossal Titan appeared at the wall, the fear never left me from then, I was always a little bit older than the trio and I thought it was my job to protect all three of them...Now it seems we face a new danger that is trying to cross this district".

I see Levi staring at me from the corner of his eye not too far from me across the wall. I try to keep my eyes forward only to jump when Rod Reiss's large hand falls near us, Eren grabs my arm holding me still and smoke bursts everywhere from Rod.

I rip off a piece of material from my shirt with my blade and tie it to Eren and I's wrists so we don't lose each other, he nods and pulls me out of the smoke, we both cough and we stand in the clearing waiting for the moment. We hear Erwin's yell "GO EREN AND Y/N!" we both stare determined forward.

We both lunge forward and sprint towards the nets, we rip our wrists away from each other's so hard it almost breaks our wrists but the material comes undone thankfully, we run beside each other then I fall back so Eren's in front.

Once he has enough space he bites down onto his hand turning into a titan and continues running, I then dig my thumb into my surgery wound and scream as I transform. I run behind Eren, he grabs my wrist and throws me forward and I land further in front of him grabbing my net, Eren follows behind grabbing his.

We see Rod Reiss's horrific skinned off face, Eren and I chuck our explosives in Rod's mouth and Rod explodes into millions of pieces. I scream in titan form as I'm being torn to pieces myself from the explosion, then my vision goes black before bursting to light as Levi rips me out of the nape of my titan form.

He's smiling at me as he pulls me out, he says "Get your gear ready" I look at him oddly then remember we are falling, he lets me go and activates his gear, I activate mine and launch at a piece of meat slicing it, it goes on for a while until Historia gets the right one, she falls out of the air and I shout when I see her "HISTORIA!" I hang onto the wall and see as Historia gets up and announces she's the real heir to the throne.

I cheer and shout fangirling "GO HISTORIA!" Historia spots me then smiles and waves proudly.

I stand on the wall and see half of my titan form's top face slowly burning away, I hesitantly touch its cheekbone and say to myself, "Wow, so that's a little of what I look like?" the commanders and corporals along with Historia and a lot of the others have left to help Historia's situation, so I am alone except the few soldiers who are cleaning up the wall and town.

A cadet comes up behind me and says "That titan was a hero, I'm proud" I smile and say "I guess..." she continues "I wonder what it's like being a titan shifter, I wonder just how much they have grown over the past few years" I shrug and say "Hmm, who knows" I stand up straight and say "It was nice-" only to be cut off seeing Jeanette standing there in a survey corps outfit with a smile before vanishing.

I whisper "Aunty...?"
