Chapter 7

~(Levi's POV)~
We managed to find two of our carts and five of ours horses so far, the cadets split up in groups some of us had to slay titans along the way.

I keep my cool and that's when I realized, 'Wait, why do I care about a brat? Last time I checked I couldn't care less so why now?', I scold my mind, I hook onto a tree and stand on a branch, Erwin joins me and asks, "What's the problem?", I turn to him and cross my arms, "We should stop looking for that H/C brat, it's very certain she's dead already", I give a cold glare.

Erwin cocks his head with interest, "That's funny, before you looked like you would kill anything in your path to get Y/N back, why the sudden change?", he asks, I keep my cool and say, "I didn't want my training with her to be useless", Erwin laughs slightly at my pathetic attempt of my half truth.

Erwin looks out over the trees and fields in front of us, "I promised Y/N's mother I would protect her from harm, I intend to keep that promise Levi, if deep down you care about your cadets then help me bring her back", he says, I can only agree.

Eren swings to the tree branch we stand on like birds, "Captain! Corporal! We have found the rest of our horses and equipment!", Eren salutes, Erwin and I exchange looks before turning to the Jeager boy, "Jeager, we need you to turn into a titan, we are going to get Y/N back", Erwin says laying a hand on Eren's shoulder.

Eren nods with confidence as we all gather on the ground to come up with a plan.

~(Y/N POV)~
The trees rustle in the gentle air, titans have started to arrive and they have been scratching at the tree I sit on with Annie.

I hold onto her with fear that they might somehow jump up at any second, Annie says, "They aren't going to lay a finger on you Y/N, not when I'm here anyways", Annie stands up, I question what she's doing until I see her smash her 3DMG on the branch, I gasp in shock.

"A-Annie what are you doing!?", I ask worried on how we will be able to get out of the forest, she turns to me and chucks the gear out of the tree, I stare at her speechless, Annie walks towards me and checks my cuts.

"Annie! How are we going to escape!", I grab a handful of my hair, building up stress my mind going from one question to another at rapid speed, Annie grabs my shoulders and looks me right in the eyes making me freeze in place, "You'll see why this was important Y/N".

Annie snaps off a thick looking branch and takes off her jacket, I stare at her again, she slashes at her jacket with the branch making the jacket look tattered and she did the same to her shirt and pants.

She throws away the branch, she now looks like she crawled out of a roseberry bush, we wait for a bit more then a few massive thumps was heard.

Annie crosses her arms as if she knows exactly what it is, the thumps grow rapid towards the forest, my eyes widen in fear as a titan with black hair bursts into the forest.

I gape at it the hairs on the back of my neck rising, I was just about to yelp when I see Levi and all the cadets that came on our mission fly around the black-haired titan, Annie shouts over to them and the titan turns to stare at us.

I take a step back when the titan approaches us, I almost fall off the banch we are standing on but Annie catches me.

"A-Annie, what is that titan?", I ask looking at the black-haired titan walking towards us, Annie gives me a surprised look, "That's Eren, he's a titan shifter as well", she says and I give her a shocked expression, my mouth hung open.

I closed my mouth when Eren kicked and punched the rest of the small titans below the tree away, Eren brings his face close to the branch we are on and stares at us.

"H-Hi Eren", I wave awkwardly, Eren brings up a hand and pokes me gently I gasp when he pokes my lungs with his massive finger, Levi swings to us from Eren's shoulder, the first thing he does is grab my chin and inspect the cuts on my face and arms, "You're all filthy, those cuts have a chance of infection as well, where is that female titan Cadet Annie?", Levi turns to Annie not letting go of my face.

"I went after Y/N when she was captured without order, the female titan attempted to kill us and we did obviously get hurt and my gear got smashed, the titan got away but I managed to cut her fingers and retreave Y/N", Annie says calmly I am surprised at her expert lie.

Levi turns back to me staring into my eyes for something, I look at him blankly, the only words that come from him is, "You're alive", his voice had a hint of relief.

Hanji jumps down next to us, "That was close, we thought we lost you!", Hanji wraps me in a tight hug I gasp for air as the cuts start to sting, a wince escapes my throat and Hanji jolts back from realization, "Ah! Sorry Y/N! I didnt realize you were so worn out!", she bows her head in apology.

Levi rolls his eyes, a shadow is cast on me blocking some light from the trees, I look up squinting my eyes to see Erwin smiling down at us from Eren's head.

"Alright!", Erwin turns to everyone else and says, "We have retreaved Annie and Y/N it's time to head back to HQ!", the cadets cheer while Reiner hands Annie and I fresh 3DMG.

We can finally head back! I jump in the air with happiness but immediately regret it and yelp in pain, Levi gives me a look, "Tch, idiot", I catch a small smile from him which makes me flash a smile back.
