Regulus rocked back and forth on his bed as he listened to the ever louder screaming of his brother, Sirius, from the room below. A single tear rolled down his cheek as he pictured a life alone without his brother by his side. He knew Sirius was going to leave, and he knew there was no way of stopping him.

The two boys had never been particularly close growing up. Yes, they had their moments, but they also had their fights, their arguments, their disagreements, that was life. You love people, you fight people, and that was it. That was just the way the world worked. That was what Regulus had been brought up to believe and these view points had been engraved into his brain. The world was split into two types of people. There was good and there was bad.

A war was coming, Regulus knew that. He also knew that as long as he sat in the house of 12 Grimmauld Place, he would always be on the bad side of the war and his brother would run away and fight for the good side. Run away and leave Regulus alone to fend for himself. Run away and allow his parents to force him to do as they please. Run away. Run away.

"I hereby disown you! You are never to set foot in this home again!" That's what Regulus had been waiting for. Another tear trailed down his cheek.

"Reg?" When he looked up, Sirius was stood in the doorway, a large cut on his cheek and a bruise on his jaw. "I'm going."

"No, you're not." Sirius sighed and walked over, pulling the younger Black's head to his chest. He threaded his fingers through Regulus' soft curls, cooing comforting words. Sirius sat down beside him and cupped his cheeks.

"Come with me." He whispered.

"I can't."

"Yes. Yes, you can. Come with me to James' house. Run away with me."

"I can't. I'm stuck here." Regulus' eyes trailed around the room. The covered windows, the dark walls, the shadows and the pain. The pain that had been forced upon him for all of his years. The pain that he would never forget. The pain that had left scars on his body. Oh, the scars. So, so many scars.

"And you always will be unless you come with me....I'm going to go and get my things. Think about it. If you decide to come with me, have your stuff ready before I'm back." Then he stood up and left the room. Regulus contemplated for a while.
