James sat on the stone ledge of the corridor, looking out over the courtyard with his legs dangling carelessly off the side. The sky was blue, barely a cloud in sight, and so the four Marauders made their way outside to enjoy the weather.

After about an hour of common chatter, Remus left for his weekly study with Lily, then Sirius left for his 'daily detention' as they liked to call it, (James didn't really know what the detention was for this time, he'd never actually bothered to ask) leaving James and Peter alone. They weren't really talking, there wasn't much point. They both knew what the other was thinking about. 'We've ruined everything'. And that, they had. The plan was completely ruined.

It seemed simple at first: fake date Mary, make Regulus jealous, break up with Mary, get with Regulus. Easy, right? No, apparently not.

It was now October 28th, three days before Halloween, and about a month since Regulus and Bailey had started dating. Yeah...that happened. It was all James could think about. Regulus liked Bailey? I mean, she was a beautiful girl, you'd be lying if you said she wasn't, but Regulus and Bailey? He pursed his lips as his eyes began to water, silently praying that the tears wouldn't fall down his face.

"I'm sorry, Prongs. I've ruined everything." Peter said suddenly, snapping James back to reality.

"No, you didn't mean to it's.....okay, it's okay." He shook his head, guiltily.

"It's not okay. I knew you liked him and I messed it all up. And now he's with Chambers, and it's all my fault."

"It's not your fault that he likes someone else. You can't control that." Pete's stomach rumbled loudly, causing both boys to chuckle, "Just like you can't control your hunger. Go get something to eat, I'm good here."

Peter gave him a grateful smile, patting him on the back comfortingly before he left. James stared down at the grass below him. It was almost Christmas break already, time had passed so quickly. He still hadn't received a reply to the letter he'd asked Sirius to give to Reggie for him. He would have done it himself but he well...had some kissing business to attend to. Was Reg ignoring him? Or did he just not know how to reply? Had he scared him? Annoyed him?

It was so silent when Regulus sat down beside him that he might not have noticed if it wasn't for the large shadow on the grass below them. James looked up cautiously, watching as Regulus fiddled with a ripped bit of his robe, his grey eyes completely focused on the floor. Neither of them spoke, there was no need. Yes, both boys had many questions for the other but it wasn't the best time nor place.

Ten minutes of silence. Fifteen. Twenty. Twenty five.

"Hi." Reggie whispered, still not looking up.
