"When I was 4, Mother and Father put me into this successful tutoring school thing. I didn't exactly have friends. Sirius had found some other kids, why would he hang out with his little brother when he had his own mates? And it's not like I grew up with a lot of people my age. On my first day, I was sat alone reading a Defense Against The Dark Arts children's book; it was quite depressing, to be honest. Except two people walked over and asked to sit with me. They introduced themselves, Humphrey and Bailey, they were twins, they looked almost identical, they would accidentally say the same things at the same time. I remember sitting there and thinking about how amazing they were, I'd never had friends before, and these two random strangers...well they meant the world to me the second that I met them." Regulus took another bite of his sandwich as he and Remus treaded their way down the street. Remus didn't speak, so Regulus became embarrassed, cringing up. "Sorry, you shouldn't have to walk here and listen to my sob story."
Remus smiled and shook his head. "No. Keep going." Regulus hesitated, causing Remus to roll his eyes and kick the younger boy in the shin. "I have all day. All week. All of my bloody life if you need. Keep going."
"Well, I- um- well, thank you."
"Yes! Yes! Okay! Now get on with it, you great buffoon!"
"Buffoon? Really, Lupin?" The glare that was sent in his direction was enough to shut him up, "Merlin, alright, alright. It's just- they've done so much for me. Like- like- well, there was this time when I fell off my broom during practice, Bailey was in such a hurry to get to me that when she landed, she broke her ankle. But, even though she was in pain, she threw her broom onto the ground and came over to help me. I'd hit my head pretty bad, could've been fatal. But I was fine. Do you know why? 'Cuz Bailey was there for me, not many people would do that for someone.
Oh! And there was also this time when...when I'd had a really bad fight with Sirius...and the twins were so good about it. I was a crying mess, I'd skipped dinner to smoke out behind the greenhouses at school. Humphrey found me...he brought me back to the dorm...and...and Bailey had set up a whole mini party. There was popcorn, fizzy drinks, wizard sweets, muggle sweets, fire-whiskey, balloons, blankets and pillows and cushions all over the floor and a TV that they'd found in the Muggle Studies storage cupboard. We watched movies all night and ate a load of crap, got real drunk...it was great." He chuckled softly at the memory. "I know that they won't mind that I didn't get them any presents...it's just...I feel so guilty. After everything they've done for me...I couldn't even get them something for their birthday."
"Do you often feel the need to ask someone if they actually still want you in their life because it feels like you're not good enough for them?" Remus asked suddenly. The question shocked Regulus; it was extremely blunt. He scanned the area where they stood and spotted an empty bench looking out over a field. Nodding over towards it, he motioned for Remus to follow him and they sat down comfortably, well, as comfortably as they could on an old, wooden bench.
