"I don't know. I'm sorry, there's no explanation that I can think of, even after my years of education." Madam Pomfrey bowed her head in disappointment. Disappointment in herself. After all these years of healing, there was nothing she could think of. She couldn't bear to look into the young girl's eyes, she couldn't. Her face was so pale, her cheeks so lifeless, her stance so slouched.
"What?"
Pomfrey flinched at the way her voice cracked.
"I will dedicate as much of my time as I possibly can to diagnose and cure you, I promise. There's just nothing I can do at this moment in time." There was silence, so much silence that it was worrying. She forced herself to look up and found that the young girl's face was completely steady.
"Okay. Thank you, Ma'am." And then she left.
The pain of telling a patient, especially one so young and ill, that there was nothing they could do, that they didn't know what to do, was by far the most difficult thing any healer would ever have to do. The woman dropped to the now-empty bed and rested her face in her hands.

"Lil?" Bailey whispered, peeking her head around a bookshelf. "Hello? Lils?"
"Here." Her face broke into a smirk when she spotted the brown laced shoe poking out of the side of a desk.
"Why the hell are you under a desk?" They were still whispering as she sat down too, tapping their outstretched legs together.
"Where else would you like to hide? And...aren't you sick?" Lily said in a sarcastic tone.
"Never too sick for you, darling." She rolled her eyes and looked back down at the book in her hands. This reminded Bailey and she reached into her pocket to pull out a piece of a ripped-out page.
'The world is full of obvious things which nobody by any chance ever observes' - The Hounds Of Baskervilles by Arthur Conan Doyle.
She passed it to Lily, who in response passed her one back.
'If your dear heart is wounded, my wild heart bleeds with yours' - Carmilla by Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu.
Bailey leaned forward and pressed a soft kiss to the girl's cheek, receiving one too, then pulled a book out of her bag to join her in her reading.

"Bailey, you're back!" Humphrey jumped out of his seat as soon as Bailey walked through the Slytherin common room doors. "Where were you?"
The girl smiled brightly and ran over to hug him tightly. The brother laughed with pure joy. She hadn't been this lively in weeks. "I went to Madam Pomfrey."
"You did?! What did she say?!" She pulled away slightly and stroked his cheek in a motherly manner.
"I'm getting better. It'll all be over soon." Humphrey let go of her completely before running around the room, cheering loudly and chanting words like 'my sister is gonna be okay' and 'you hear that? My sister can get through anything!' before sprinting back over to pick her up and spin her around in circles.
