"So you're trying to tell me that Earth circles around the sun?" It was a warm June morning and every student found themselves at breakfast in the Great hall.

"Yes, Humphrey. The planets rotate around the sun. It's not that hard to understand." Regulus replied with a tired sigh. He'd been awake writing in that diary of his for most of the night, he had found it rather entertaining. It was a good way for him to express emotions he could not explain to others, and a place where he could write about the conversations and moments he had with people.

A part of him wished he was happy that it was his birthday, but he wasn't particularly excited. Milo's birthday was the next day, so each year since they had met, they had decided to just pretend they had the same birthday - a shared birthday. It was easier this way. They could share a party, share presents, share cards. So much simpler.

Not that they'd ever actually had a real party. It was usually just their small group hanging out in the dorm room, which they did practically every day, so birthdays were never that big of an event for them.

"But...how?" Bailey looked like she wanted to cry at her brother's idiocy.

"What's got your panties in a twist, Chambers?" A smug voice made itself known behind them and they turned to see Crouch, Snape and Mulciber. Humph opened his mouth to argue back, but Bailey gave him a side look and he fell silent.

"It is none of your business what goes on with my panties and it never will be, Crouch. Now, is there something you dumb shits want to say or are you ready to fuck off?" The three boys whistled and Crouch raised his eyebrows.

"Fiesty one, aren't you?" Humph made an angered noise at the back of his throat and Snape laughed.

"Awe, is Humphy getting an itty bit protective over his baby sister." He teased with a fake pout. When the other two began to laugh, Humphrey slammed his fist onto the wooden table. Reg tried to calm him, but it was no use. The older Slytherins lured him in, winding him up more and more until he finally snapped, raising out of his seat to attach his fist to Mulciber's cheek.

His cry of pain silenced the entire hall.

"Humphrey Chambers! My office now!" McGonagall's yell rang through the hall.

"He was insulting Bailey-"

"Chambers! My. Office." He didn't say a word as he grabbed his bag and stormed out of the room, glaring at many that he passed. Regulus looked over to the Ravenclaw table to see Milo worriedly watching his boyfriend leave. At the Gryfinddor table, each of the Marauders stared at Reg, but he only made eye contact with one.

"That hardly seems fair. I mean, what he said was utterly outrageous. I can't believe that McGonagall would believe his well-rehearsed excuses!" Bailey ranted after Humphrey had returned from his meeting with Professor McGonagall. She and Regulus had just left Ancient Runes, and all three of them were walking through the halls to their next lessons. Bailey and Humphrey had Herbology whilst Regulus had Potions, so they soon had to split up.

"It's fine, sis. Only two detentions, that's not much. The others got 5, so I got off pretty well."

"Yes, but that doesn't change the fact that it's unfair." Regulus didn't have much time to say anything as the two siblings quarrelled, he only managed to fit in a short goodbye before they continued their way upstairs, and he made his way down. He loved those two, and they loved each other, but every group of siblings have their disagreements.

"Ah, Mr Blue! Perfectly on time, I see!" Slughorn exclaimed as Regulus made his way into the Potions classroom.

"Black, sir. It's Regulus Black."

"Yes, yes, of course! How could I be so silly?" Reg sent him a forced smile before making his way over to his desk to unpack. There was still quite a bit of time before the lesson started so only a couple of other students had arrived, none of them being James or Milo.

It was extremely lucky that the three boys had gone almost a year sitting beside each other in class without anyone asking questions. Why was a Pureblooded Slytherin sitting with a Blood traitor and a Muggleborn? But, sadly, these things don't last forever, especially not after what had happened at breakfast.

"Reggie." James greeted with a large grin, sitting himself down on his stool.

"Oh, James. Hello."

"I believe that it is somebody's birthday~," He said in a sing-song tone, causing Regulus to roll his eyes.

"It's not that big of a deal. I'm just another year closer to death."

"Well, that's a lovely way to think about it..." Milo stated, scaring Reg slightly.

"How long have you been sat there?!"

"Oh, only about twenty seconds." Regulus narrowed his eyes at the other boy and jokingly hit him with his elbow.

"Wow, very cosy over here, isn't it?" Reg stiffed when he recognised who's voice that belonged to. "This is a trio that I'd never thought I would see...You could definitely do better, Black."

"Shut up, Snivillus." James stood up so that he could be level with Snape as he spoke.

"Protecting him now, are we, Potter?"

"He's my best friend's little brother, obviously I'm going to protect him. Any sane person would. Maybe you would understand that if you cared more about the people around you instead of worrying about your stupid Slytherin-brat reputation."

"This isn't about you, Potter." He spat out, "I'm here to talk to Reggie."

"His name is Regulus, you disgusting slimeball." Reg wanted to stop James, he was only going to make the situation worse, but he was frozen in place. If he fought against Snape now, everyone would realize that he was standing up for James and Milo. Someone would tell his mother. He couldn't let that happen, especially not now that he knew he was going back to Grimmauld place in less than a month.

"Be quiet, Potter. A name is a name." He regretted saying it the second it slipped from his mouth. The expression on James' face killed him inside, but he refused to show that on his face, he wouldn't let anyone know how much this was paining him to say. "Did you need something, Severus? The class will be beginning in a minute or so."

"Huh, well...you could work with me. I'm sure you'd much prefer that than to sit with these...insects." He wanted to hit him, but it would do no good. Instead, he took a deep breath and collected his things.

"Sure." Was his reply. Snape gave a satisfied smirk and walked back to his desk.

"What the hell are you doing?" Milo sneered, shocking Regulus a bit.

"Whatever I can to survive the Summer." Bennet looked at him with faint disappointment, but nodded and turned away. "Forgive me, James, I beg of you." He muttered before walking over to the greasy-haired idiot. He could not look his boyfriend in the eyes, he felt too guilty to deserve such a thing.

That was only the beginning of the downfall.
