"Pettigrew!" Peter raised his head from his knees, peaking at James nervously.
"Y-yes, James?"
"Outside. Now." Sirius whistled from behind him.
"Ooooooo, Prongs is madddddd!" Completely ignoring Padfoot, James dragged Peter out of the dorm and back into the classroom that they had hidden in before.
"I'M SORRY!"
"You're sorry, huh? Mary? Mary? What the fuck, Peter?"
"I didn't know what else to do! Pads asked who you were with and the first person that came to mind was Mary! I never told him that you were dating, he just assumed that! And then when I said that you weren't together he didn't believe me! I'm sorry!"
"What are we going to do! I mean, I can't date MacDonald! She's my friend! And- and Reggie? What about Reg?" Wormtail moved closer to him slowly, placing a hand on his shoulder comfortingly.
"It's okay, we'll find a way."
"Ah, thought I heard voices. Oh, and it's my apparent boyfriend, what a coincidence." Mary walked into the room, closing the door behind her.
"I- I can explain!" James protested, holding his arms up in surrender.
"You'd better."
***
James internally sighed as he took hold of Mary's hand once again. It was 6 days into this 'relationship' that Mary had reluctantly agreed to after a lot of explanation. The only reason that she was doing this for him was, and I quote, 'Regulus is cute, you're not too bad, you'd look good together'.
He was hardly aware that he was even moving as James and the other Marauders left the Great hall to go back to the common room. James was extremely grateful that Mary had been up to going along with this, it was a good cover up for his and Regulus'.....friendship. It wasn't much of a friendship anymore though, it wasn't much of an anything to be truly honest. They hadn't spoken for days and well...James missed him. He missed his voice, his laugh, the way his forehead wrinkled perfectly when he was concentrating, or the way he took a deep breath to stop himself from laughing, or his smile...god his smile.
"Hey!" Sirius nudged him in the side, bringing him out of his daydreams. "Stop fantasizing about MacDonald and help me with this!" He said sleepily, waving his hand in the direction of his Care Of Magical Creatures homework.
"That was due over a week ago!" James replied, resting his cheek upon his fist.
"And? I forgot about it!" He sighed before taking the parchment from Sirius and reading the question.
"The Pygmy Puffs one?" He nodded, "They sing on Boxing day." James was answered with a thankful smile before he scribbled the answer on to the sheet. "I'm gonna go see Mary again, she wanted to speak to me." He didn't get anything in return except from a small wave as Sirius read the next question.
"Potter, in here!" He followed Mary's voice into a large storage cupboard and closed the door behind him. "Did anyone follow you?"
"No, I don't think so, why?"
"I want to talk to you about something....important I guess you could say." James furrowed his eyebrows but nodded anyway, the pair both sitting themselves down on the floor, backs against the stone walls.
"Alright, what is it that you wanted to talk about?" She seemed hesitant to answer, almost worried for how James would react.
"I- You love him, don't you?" James sat there for a very long time, jaw hanging and eyebrows raised so much that they were invisible behind his head of hair. Love. What a strong word. He'd only ever used that word to describe Lily Evans, and did he even love her? She was amazing and everything but...love?
Regulus. Love. Two words he had never thought to put together, yet they matched perfectly. It felt...right. More than right, perfect. Regulus Black was perfect in James' eyes. And James loved him. He didn't even need to consider it, he just knew. James loved Regulus. He really, really did. I mean, nobody gets upset because they haven't seen the way their friend wrinkles his forehead perfectly when he was concentrating, or the way he takes a deep breath to stop himself from laughing. That was love. James had learned so little about Regulus yet loved every bit that he did know. He got excited at the prospect of learning more about him, and therefore getting to love him even more. Love was the way he stared at Regulus at every possible moment and looked away, blushing, when he was caught. Love was the way the butterflies travelled through his body as Regulus' soft voice read to him. Love was the way James felt about Regulus. James was in love.
"Um, yes- I-I love him." A significantly large grin appeared on Mary's face at his positive reply.
"You're not going to like this any more that I will, but we're going to have to do it...we're going to have to kiss....and if he gets jealous..." James took a deep breath. Kiss. Mary. Unlike Regulus and Love, Kiss and Mary did not go well together at all. Regulus and jealous, however....
