Eva's POV
I felt warm hands lightly stroke my cheek and I slowly opened my eyes.
"Morning beautiful." Anna said while she sat beside me. Her voice reflected that of someone who was very reluctant to begin the day.
"Morning Boon." I said and she gave me a short smile.
"We have to get ready soon." she said and got up. We got ready in silence and left her house at nine along with her mother and Esther. The ride to the church was quiet and sorrowful only the sound of one song on loop filled the air, Wiz Khalifa ft. Charlie Puth - See You Again.
We arrived and Esther and Anna's mother exited the jeep and walked in the church. Anna sat there with her hands on the steering wheel and eyes closed. I got out and walked over to her side and opened the door, she looked at me.
"I can't." was all she said. I stepped closer and she turned her body to face me.
"Listen Boon, I'm here for you. The girls are here for you. You don't have to do this alone." I said. She looked at me a little longer then grabbed a pair of shades from the glove compartment and got out the vehicle. She wrapped me in a hug that spoke volumes. She consumed me with grief and craved an ease from such, I returned the hug hoping I fulfilled her needs. After what I assumed to be satisfaction she released me and kissed my forehead.
"Thank you Eva." she simply said. Katie, Sab and Cooper came over in silence and hugged her as well. Mourners packed the church from family to friends to coworkers and employees.
Anna held my hand and rested her head on my shoulder the entire service. She held up well as she read the Eulogy but all that she held back broke the barriers she built and came down all at once when read the last sentence. Esther got up to comfort her.
The service ended and we were at the graveyard. Just like at the church Anna held on to me but this time Katie and Sab where closer to us while Cooper stood afar and looked on. They intermittently rubbed her back and hugged her from the side which helped greatly.
Her mother had a full on breakdown when the casket was being lowered and Anna had to leave her grief with us and comfort her mother. Her grief wrapped its arms around my shoulders and I cried as I watched her comfort her mother. She was so strong, loving and selfless. An hour after the burial Anna and her mother stood beside the grave in each other's embrace. Sab, Katie and Cooper left to go to Anna's home while Esther and I stood there and waited patiently. They left eventually and we made our way back to Anna's home.
Cars lined the driveway making it impossible for Anna to park but she soon found a spot. As we got into the house people bombarded Anna and her mother with condolences and hugs.
Anna's POV
My fake smile lost it's momentum after the 30th person came up to me to give their condolences. Family members who were unavailable to look after me when my parents business grew, suddenly claimed to care. I looked around for Eva but she wasn't anywhere in sight. I felt the anger of my younger self rear it's ugly head as I was surrounded by those who played no part in where I am today but claimed to be distraught by my father's demise. Suddenly concerned about my mental health or my recovery process after the accident.
I frantically searched for my comfort, Eva before I exploded in rage. I felt a hand on my shoulder and looked back, it was Esther.
"Go and cool off Miss Anna. Mi ah go find har(her)." she said and left. She always knew me even when I didn't know myself. I left the gathering and went to my room. I slammed the door shut and began to pace the room back and forth. I needed something to calm me down because I didn't want to destroy anything and disappoint Eva or Esther. I remembered the bottle of Hennessy I hid in my closet under my hoodies.
I was four shots in before I heard the door knock. I scrambled to hide the bottle and hid it under my pillow, very stupid.
"Yeah, who is it?" I shouted. The door pushed open.
"Yo, I asked who-" I stopped when I saw my sanctuary.
"Hey Boon." she said lightly.
"Hey." I responded. She sat in my gaming chair with a puzzled expression.
"What's wrong?" she asked. I didn't respond.
"Okay." she said and got up and left. I knew she hated when I didn't open up but I couldn't at the moment at least not in that environment. I changed into sweats and went downstairs to look for her. I found her chatting with one of my cousins. I walked past her and held her hand bringing her with me. I led her out to the jeep and opened the passenger's door. She stood there with her arms folded.
"Please Eva. I'll answer all your questions." I said. She got in, I closed the door and got in and left. I played the same song over and over, it strangely quieted my mind. We pulled up to our destination, my father and I's secret spot. I got out and sat on the railing facing forward while Eva leaned against it beside me.
"What happened back there?" she asked.
"I got angry. All the family members that didn't care about me or my family back then were so concerned today. The fucking audacity." I said as I tightened my grip on the railing. Eva noticed and placed her hand on mine.
"Boon, understand that they are irrelevant right now. Don't allow that to affect you to the point where you resort to alcohol." she said. How'd she know? Was it my breath?
I didn't even try to deny it, I just lowered my head and shook it in agreement. Silence consumed the air until I decided to fill it with words.
"I'm gonna get you back Eva." I said and looked at her. I came down from the railing and turned her around to face me. There was something I battled with revealing to Eva but I had to if I wanted to make it work with her.
"I have something to tell you." I said and looked deep into her eyes.
"I'm listening." she said and wrapped her arms around my neck. I held her waist and kissed her passionately. She played in my hair and deeped the kiss then pulled away.
"So, when I was in my mode. You know when I was drinking and stuff." I said.
"Yeah when you kicked me out." she added. Sigh, why did she have to say that.
"Yeah then. Amanda came into the pool house and stripped in front of me." I said and stopped. She took her hands off my neck immediately and folded them. I kept my grip on her waist.
"That bitch! Let's hear it then Boon, go on." she said angrily.
