You Are Worthy

Anna's POV

I woke up before Eva to go walk on the treadmill. I put on my black Nike Pro shorts, black Nike sports bra and a pair of slides. I didn't plan on doing much for too long, just about 20 minutes. I went down to the pool house, stretched, warmed my body up and began to walk.

As I walked I thought about Jack and if he had any information for me. I decided to ask him to help me find the serial nudist that kept me as their main target. That's the reason I had him over, was to show him the pictures, discuss the matter at length and the damage it caused but Eva's unexpected arrival made the visit abrupt. I had no plan on what I would do when I found out who it was but I just hoped it wasn't someone I knew.

Time was up and I came off the treadmill, stretched again and cooled off. I went back to the room and Eva was awake and on her phone.

"Morning, you going to school today?" I asked.

"Uhmm I'm not sure. Are you?" she asked.

"Yup!" I answered. It felt like she was avoiding school and I remembered what Taylor told me, don't enable. I said nothing further, I went to the closet and took out clothes for both of us and spread them out on the bed. She looked at me and sighed then got up off the bed and headed for the bathroom.

In the time I waited for her to shower I made a few tiktoks and browsed the app. Eventually Eva came out in an underwear and I tried my utmost best not to look at her. I hurried to the bathroom, took off my clothes and jumped in the shower. I finished and was brushing my teeth when Eva came in fully dressed.

"Hey, I'm leaving. I'm picking up Dev and Katie." she said. I looked at her through the mirror and nodded yes and she left. I got dressed, had breakfast and left for school. I arrived at school and Eva and the girls were already there, as I approached I saw there was a new girl who stood next to Dev. She was about Dev's height with a wolf cut, tattoos and an undeniably beautiful face.

"Wassup fuckers?" I said and they all answered. We made small talk but I felt uncomfortable because Eva ignored my presence, the new girl kept staring at me and Eva, in return gave the new girl death stares. The bell rang and we all went to our lockers then to our respective classes. The day went by quickly which was good because I needed to leave and meet Jack because he said he had some information for me. I practically ran out school at the end of the day but was stopped by Katie, Dev and her friend. 

"Were you gonna leave us?" she asked.

"Nah, ya'll ready?" I asked.

"Yes." she answered. We got in the jeep and I dropped Katie first then Dev. I thought Devyn and her friend were going the same place but I was wrong. 

"Anna she lives not too far from your area." Devyn said and left. Her friend left the backseat and came to the front. I pulled off and the ride was silent for a while until I decided to speak.

"Soooo what's your name?" I asked.

"Wow it took you whole day to ask that. Lauren but Lo is fine." she said.

"Okay LOren." I teased and she laughed. She had a delicate laugh.

Eva's POV

After school I went straight to Anna's house. I took a shower and cuddled in bed, finished 'Who Killed Sara' and started 'All American'. I got hungry and was about to order Caines when I realized the time. It was 6:46pm and Anna wasn't home yet but I didn't want to call. I ordered food and just as I did, Anna walked through the door. 

"Hey, wassup?" she said.

"Nothing much. Binging on All American." I said.

"Oh okay. You hungry?" she asked.

"Yeah but I just ordered Caines for us." I answered.

"Okay cool." she said and went to shower. I remained in the cocoon of comfort which was at her home, in her bed with her by my side but outside of that I could not be around her. The eyes of those around us felt like they spoke words of disgust and disapproval at the sight of us being together. At school I noticed Devyn's friend couldn't keep her eyes off of Anna which pissed me off but there was nothing I could've done. Anna came out the shower and flopped on the bed next to me.

"Damn, the food ain't here yet?" she asked.

"Nah, 10 minutes away." I answered and she just nodded. She laid back and went on her phone while I watched TV. The food came and she went to collect it and came back with it well plated and everything. While we ate she spoke.

"So my cousins are having a going away party this Saturday because they're heading to college soon and they invited me and said I could bring friends. You wanna go? You don't have to talk to me or anything while we're there, I'm inviting the others as well." she said.

"I don't know, can I just stay here and watch Netflix instead?" I asked.

"Yeah, sure. Oh and by the way your sister asked when are you going home." she said.

"When my parents return." I said.

"Okay, I'll tell her." she said.

"By the way, why is she even asking you that?" I asked.

"Well she wanted to know where you were and I told her. She was worried I guess." she said

"Tell her tha-" I said before Anna interjected.

"Nope, I'm going to tell you like I told her. Whatever happened that day you went to apologize that turned everything upside down, I don't want to get in the middle. The only thing I warned her about was putting her hands on you and that's the only time I'll intervene." she said and continued eating. I didn't answer, I just finished my meal, brushed my teeth and back to bed.

I laid flat on my back and closed my eyes, once again out of the present and deep into my mind. I felt a presence over me, opened my eye and it was Boon with a confused but pleasant look on her face.

"You're pretty." she said.

"Thank you." I said.

"What are you thinking about?" she asked as she moved beside me and propped her body weight on her arm.

"Us." I said honestly.

"What about us?" she asked.

"How safe I feel being with you when no one's watching." I said.

"And what about when people are watching?" she asked.

"I feel judged, small, insignificant and unworthy." I said. That was the first time I ever said that out loud.

"That's why you ignored me at school?" she asked. I nodded yes. She suddenly pulled the cover over us, sat on me and began to tickle me.

"Repeat after me." she shouted playfully. I was laughing uncontrollably and tried to wiggle my way out from under her but she was much stronger than me.

"I am worthy." she said. I couldn't answer because my body was overcome with laughter. She stopped, removed the cover and laid on me with her lips close to my ear.

"You are worthy. You are loved. You are the best thing to ever happen to some stupid girl named Anna Shumate." she whispered in my ear. She repeated it twice and fell asleep midway the third time.
