Thomas made it home as he saw Hayden with a coworker looking over a tablet both peeking over to see Thomas walk in.
"Hey Hayden" He waved "Mr. Fredrick" He nodded tossing his bag on the loveseat.
"Tom before you get ready for your study hall come check this out" Hayden waved him over.
Speed walking behind the couch he saw it was a map of the giant territory. It was almost like blueprint with markings and notes on where each scout was scheduled. One or two areas had a yellow bubble making Thomas examine closer.
"Are those available spots?" He pointed to them almost getting his hand smacked by Hayden for touching the draft.
With a nod Fredrick pointed toward the berry ranch and the large spot."Yes exactly now I heard you were interested in a position? Preferably near the berry bushes here?"
Nodding quickly he explain. "Yes. I heard it was empty and it reminds me of when I was a kid running around"
The two men smiled to each other before looking to the hopeful teen. "Well given your credits you have been working on lately you are ahead most students in your school. And it wouldn't be the first time we hired a scouter who is a little younger than the age requirements."
Thomas lit up giving a big smile.
"I guess we can get you hired in by next week"
"Yes!" Thomas jumped back before coming around the front of the couch hugging Hayden and shaking Mr.Fredrick's hand.
"This means so much thank you" He beamed.
"Yes yes but as you know it is only part time after school and you will have a second person with you"
Thomas froze 'second person?'
A second person? What the hell does that mean? Was he going to have someone with him all the time? Was that just night shift?
"You don't like that?" Mr.Fredrick asked noticing the boy had a confused worried expression.
"I...I always seen scouts by themselves. Is it a partner thing?"
The older man shook his head. "No we just need a person to fill out the remaining time while you are in school and weekends. Like filling in half of a regular shift. It's someone who also recently joined and was interested in the same spot"
"Oh...so they watch before I get there" Thomas nodded. 'That could work...I just have to get there before Charlie and Lily. ' He thought before smiling again.
"So you want the position?" Hayden smiled getting a bigger one from Thomas.
"I'd love it"
