Thomas with his back facing against his mother as he spun his spoon. His eyes were tired as he watched Lily using her fingers against the table like drumsticks against the table to some kids show theme song.
Evelyn was helping along with Anna.
The food almost done but the tension was clear in the air as much as the smell of the cooling chicken and sides.
Evelyn's eyes looking between Thomas and Anna her presence feeling awkward knowing the family was already fighting.
"If it's too much I can leave. I don't want to be a bother." She whispered toward Anna as the tired mother instantly shook her head looking to her. "No. No this is just a stupid fight about Thomas' friends. But I think he is going to stop hanging out with some of them." Anna peeked back to her son as he continues to look at the spoon as it spun by his finger.
"Friends?" Evelyn whispered her eyebrows pressed together.
"Not any girls, don't worry. Just a boy named Charlie. Lily been out trying to find him without us sometimes and it really upset her father." She sighed as her head turned back to checking the sweet bread. "Don't worry"
Evelyn nodded. Her head lowering as she remembers his joking on the phone. A little breath escaped her lips.
"Does Thomas work tomorrow?" She asked
"Yes. Actually can you help him...find a way to not think of it. His friend has been with him such a long time I don't want him to think too hard about stopping their relationship."
"Of course. I'll take care of it" Evelyn smiled back.
The sound of the front door caught everyone off guard as Hayden walked in with Matthew and another supervisor.
"Daddy!" Lily bolted over wrapping her arms around her father's waist as he picks her up. "Hi sweetie" He kissed her head before setting her down.
Thomas looking shocked to see between the two higher up mostly looking at his trainer who had a tired serious expression.
"Thomas." Hayden waved him over as Thomas looked back confused to his mother and Evelyn.
Both just as confused.
Pushing himself up he was hesitation but continue forward as he stopped a foot away from the group.
"Go in the kitchen Lily" Hayden put his hands in his wet pockets a hard look on his face looking right to Thomas.
"Is Tommy in trouble?" Lily asked walking next to her brother but was pushed back a bit. Thomas gave her a fake smile.. "Go in the kitchen we're just gonna talk about grown up stuff" He ruffled her hair as she backed up. Looking to her father as Hayden's stare didn't leave Thomas.
"Where is it Thomas?"
Thomas flinched a bit. He could feel a feeling of guilt and panic. The feeling of his co workers only grew his anxiety. Closing his eyes he turned his head back to his co workers. "Where's what?"
"The Wolf puppy or the animal you took to the medical a few days ago." Hayden kept a dark look on his face. "We have a report you personally took in a human creature that was hurt. But our animal medics told the superintendent Kevin here that they never seen you before expect training."
Evelyn overheard as she cursed under her breath. "Damn it Thomas." Rushing to his side she spoke up. "I wrote it. The report. If you see on the employee ID it's clearly mine. But yes it was for him." She moved in a solider like stance her arms behind her back as Thomas started to realize what was happening.
"The animal right. You mean the wolf pup. It was limping but after walking a few feet from camp I noticed it was starting to walk normally and decided to let it go. I didn't realize there was a report written I thought it be less of a hassle" Thomas eyed Evelyn before he looked back. His trainer already more relieved.
"We report everything. Remember that. If that was a human loose. We might have had a bigger problem." The white haired superintendent looked over the younger workers. "Any more incidents like this and you will be under investigation. Do you understand me? I do not care who your family is. We do not allow any possible chances of our kind being seen."
"Yes sir" Thomas nodded.
"It won't happen again" Eve spoke her eyes forward.
Matthew breathed out. "I'll show you the paperwork for animals tomorrow and a better was to examine them" He told Thomas before the two walked out as Thomas looked in the direction of Hayden who never lost his glare.
