Chapter 20

Waiting outside the big blue house Thomas held his arm. He had just texted Evelyn and she was on her way downstairs. It was a bit cloudy but the news said it pass.

His dark hair blew in the wind as he patiently waited. A soft rustle of bushes caught his attention as he noticed a lone doe.

His breath was caught with an excited smile as he instantly recognized the white tailed doe.

Softly kneeling down he almost remained frozen. So many of theses beauties have ran off from leaning forward, so he simply allows it to come.

Eating the grass below a soft shake confused the animal before her ears lifted. The doe lifted her head to notice the nearby giant. Her brown eyes curiously stare to the giant's as a sweet smell drew her closer.

Her hooves moved slowly and carefully. Peeking every so often as she felt his large eyes watch her every move.

His hand hovered to her chest level as the sweet smell grew, as what appeared to be a large piece of fruit was sitting there. Her head slowly reached taking a quick bite before running in the other direction.

Looking back to see the giant not move in after her she looked to his hand again as she heard him chuckle.

"I'm not chasing you. Come on have some more mango"

Moving the small slice between his fingers he moved it a bit closer as the doe softly walks forward. Biting again in the sweet fruit.

Hearing him softly praising her  "Your so gorgeous. I bet your just a year old huh?" Her body became more relaxed until the sound of a load bang caught her off guard as she bolted back to the massive bushes.

A small chuckle left Thomas as he peeked to Evelyn. He set the fruit down before wiping his hand on his pants.

Evelyn was already locking the front door. Her brown hair was in a ponytail while she wore a short sleeve black blouse and red jeans. Her flower printed purse hung on her arm.

He blushed a bit but shaking his head he greeted her as she jogged over. "Sorry my Dad was making me finish the ice cream cake slice and not waste it"

"You got ice cream cake? Lucky! My step dad laugh in my face if I asked him for one" He dramatically acted shocked getting a laugh from his date.

"You can have some when we get back"

"I love some" He smiled warmly to her. "Oh and I brought my journal. You wanted to see it right?" He held up a leather notebook with a tree engraved in the cover. She nodded as they started walking. She unbuckled the cover and looked inside seeing the deer sketches.

"Oh my gosh! Theses are wonderful! You have so much detail...OMG! You name them?"  She happily flipped through the pages.

"Yeah most are from kids books I use to read." He had trouble not smiling at her cute reactions. Of course all he could see were small mistakes he'd make with fur patterns and antlers but she was so impressed.

"Is this what you wanna do? Study deers? I think a program at school is having an opening" Evelyn looked up.

"Well actually I just got a job. I work for the scouters now my stepdad helped me get it.

Evelyn's face shined like a star "Wait! What location?" She stopped making him stop not too far away.

"By the berry farm. Wait...are you?"

"Yes! I work days! I just moved my school scedeule. The rest of my school classes are in evenings."

"So your..."

"I'm your new co worker!"
