"New Directions! I would like to introduce you to our new show choir consultants, Spencer Alvarez and Jesse St. James!" Mr. Schue said to the New Directions who were all sitting in front of him with confused looks on their faces.
"Mr. Schue, you already introduced them to us weeks ago after we won Regionals." Rosy reminded him and their teacher frowned.
"I did?" Mr. Schue said and they all nodded, even Spencer and Jesse, who Rosy noticed were doing a very careful job of not looking at each other. They hadn't spoken since prom night the week before and even though Jesse was a pain, Rosy missed him a lot. She also hated seeing her brother moping around all week, he didn't even make an effort to smile when Lily came around to hang out and his girlfriend had noticed, but hadn't said anything yet.
"Well, Nationals is in a week so I thought now would be a good time to bring Spencer and Jesse in." Mr. Schue said and Rosy heard Santana mutter "finally" beside her and exchanged a knowing look with her friend.
"I still don't trust him," Finn said, arms crossed and glaring at Jesse, who smiled smugly back. "How do we know he's not just going to trick into doing something stupid, so his alma mater wins?"
"I don't think I need to do much tricking to get you to do something stupid, Finn," Jesse said calmly and Rosy glared at him.
"Jesse!" She snapped, but he just smiled pleasantly at her making her frown. She hated Robot Jesse.
"Guys, Spencer and Jesse are just consultants, I still make all the calls." Mr. Schue said, choosing to ignore Jesse's comment, much to Finn's annoyance. "Now, I have all the confidence in the world in you guys. I just think we could use all the help we can get because..." Mr. Schue said, turning to point at the board where 'Nationals' was written in big block letters, "This is it. We've been working so hard for two years for this moment, and that moment is finally here. Now, I was talking with Jesse and Spencer, and they agreed that we should continue with our successful trend of doing original songs for the competition." Mr. Schue said and Jesse and Spencer both nodded. "I was thinking of doing one group number and one duet."
"Rachel and I should sing a duet. We killed it last year with 'Faithfully." Finn said and even from her seat behind Rachel, Rosy could spot her friend's smile.
"Yeah, killed us, we lost," Quinn said quietly, in a jealous and bitter tone.
"May I?" Jesse said, raising his hand, and Rosy could already tell whatever was going to come out of his mouth was going to be rude or condescending, or unhelpful. Or possibly all three. Judging by the looks on Finn and Spencer's faces, she could tell they were thinking the same thing.
"I agree that Rachel should sing lead," Jesse said and Rosy spotted her brother not so subtly rolling his eyes as he leaned back against the piano. "But Finn, I think it's best if you sit this one out. Fact is, most of the other guys in here are better singers, and Mike Chang, who can't even sing, can at least dance. You kind of sing and dance like a zombie who has to poop." Jesse said with a shrug and while the others began to laugh quietly, Rosy glared at Jesse, ready to yell at him, but her brother beat her to it.
"Stop being such an asshole, Jesse. Finn is a great performer, so why not try separating your professional feelings for some of the people in this room from your personal ones, shall we?" Spencer said and Jesse glared at Spencer, but just nodded stiffly. The rest of glee practice pretty much went on like that, Jesse sending small insults Finn's way and either Spencer or Rosy snapping at him to stop, while Mr. Schue just stood back and allowed it to happen, as usual.
When glee practice finally ended and everyone began to clear out, Rosy made her way over to Finn, who was roughly stuffing things into his bag. She tapped him on the shoulder gently and he whirled around, a sharp glare on his face as if he was expecting one last jab by Jesse, but his features softened when he saw it was just her.
