Since Kurt and Finn had left Ohio, Rosy had decided to pay Burt and Carole a visit, so she had been invited over to have dinner with them, and Sam too, who was still living with them. Carole had made spaghetti and they were all seated at the table, Burt and Carole on one side and Sam and Rosy on the other.
"So, how have you guys been holding up with a nearly empty house?" Rosy asked as she twirled her spaghetti around her fork.
"It's been okay. Different definitely. But Sam's been keeping us company," Carol said, smiling over at Sam, who smiled back. "How have you been sweetie? How's your senior year going so far?"
"It's going okay. I miss everyone, of course, but it's okay so far." Rosy said, smiling lightly, and Carole nodded.
"And how's that boyfriend of yours? Luke?" Burt asked and Carole jabbed him lightly in the side. "What?" He asked her and she tried to discreetly point over at Sam, but they all noticed. There was an awkward silence at the table for a minute, both Rosy and Sam's eyes glued to their plates.
"He's good. He's super busy with football season starting, but I think he likes it in Pittsburgh," Rosy said, breaking the silence.
"That's good. Is he coming home to visit anytime soon?" Carole asked and Rosy nodded.
"He'll be back for Thanksgiving, he's already booked a ticket," Rosy said, smiling at the thought, and Carole nodded.
"So, um, how's Finn?" Rosy asked after a moment, and Carole fell silent. "You've been in contact with him, haven't you?" Rosy asked and Carole didn't say anything for a minute.
"Just a few phone calls here and there," Carole said finally and Rosy nodded.
"Oh. Has he...why hasn't he been calling me? I've been trying to reach him for months," Rosy said in a small voice, and she could feel Sam's look of pity.
"Oh honey, he misses you so much and he wants to talk to you so bad, but he knows that if he talks to you that you'll somehow convince him to call Rachel. And he's trying to let her go, at least for now," Carole said and Rosy frowned but nodded. Finn was right, Rosy would do anything to get him to at least call Rachel. Her friend had been miserable for weeks and Rosy hated it.
"Can you tell him I miss him? And that he's an idiot," Rosy added, and Carole smiled softly.
"Of course, honey," Carole said, reaching across the table and squeezing Rosy's hand, making a small smile appear on Rosy's face as well.

After lots of persuading and lots of Rosy reminding Carole that she wasn't a guest in the house, Carole had taken her up on her offer to do the dishes. Carole and Burt had settled in the living room to watch some TV and Rosy and Sam had gone to the kitchen. Sam had insisted on being the one to actually wash the dishes, so Rosy had taken a seat on the counter to dry the plates that he handed her.
"So, how has it been living alone with them?" Rosy asked as he began to wash the dishes.
"It's okay. It's quieter, for sure, and I feel a bit awkward sometimes, but they're really nice about making me feel welcome," Sam said, handing her a wet plate to dry.
"They're so sweet," Rosy said and Sam nodded.
"So, how are you holding up, actually?" Sam asked and Rosy looked up in surprise to see him looking at her intently.
"You've always been good at reading me," Rosy said with a slightly nervous laugh.
"One of my many special talents," Sam said and she sighed.
