"I'm really glad you agreed to meet with me, Rosy,"
It had been several weeks since the callbacks for the musical, which the glee kids were now calling the "Rosy vs. Tina Showdown", and it had also been several weeks since Rosy had promised Mr. Schue to meet with Ms. Pillsbury regularly. However, in line with Finn's view of her, Rosy had been practically running away from Ms. Pillsbury every chance she got and had thrown herself completely into the musical in order to avoid the guidance counselor. But Rosy could only run for so long and Ms. Pillsbury had finally caught her on her way to her car, which was how Rosy found herself sitting across from her, avoiding her eyes and reading some of her pamphlets instead.
"I don't want you to feel pressured to be here, Rosy, and I don't want to push you to speak about anything you're not ready for. I just think, and Mr. Schuester agreed, that you need a bit of a support system this year." Ms. Pillsbury said, and those words made Rosy's eyes snap up to hers.
"I have a support system," Rosy said, her tone slightly harsh, but Ms. Pillsbury only nodded kindly.
"I don't doubt that you have a great group of family and friends who support you, Rosy. I have heard first hand about your great friendships with Puck, Rachel, and Finn. But, I also know that sometimes distance isn't always ideal with those supports, especially when people are going through big changes. And I think that adding a few more people to your system couldn't hurt, and it wouldn't make the people who are further away any less important," Ms. Pillsbury said, and Rosy said nothing.
"How about we start with something simple. Or at least simpler than some of the other things going on. How's the musical going?" Ms. Pillsbury asked, and Rosy shifted slightly in her seat. As stubborn as she was, she could appreciate that Ms. Pillsbury could recognize which things she definitely did not want to speak about.
"It's going well. Artie's feeling more comfortable with the directing now that it's his second year doing it and he's being a great leader. And the cast has been really great too, especially Marley and Unique. They're both really talented," Rosy said, surprised at how the words tumbled out of her. It had been a long time since she'd spoken so freely to someone other than Rachel on their weekly calls.
"That's amazing to hear, I can't wait to see the show. But what about you? Do you enjoy your role in it? Would you rather have been on stage?" Ms. Pillsbury asked.
"I like my role. I like helping Artie and Finn and I like taking charge and organizing. And it can be stressful sometimes, but I think that I'm good with chaos. I don't know about performing though. I mean, I know I've been in glee club since the beginning, but I've never really performed that much," Rosy explained and Ms. Pillsbury nodded thoughtfully.
"I'm glad to hear you're enjoying yourself. So I assume that you won't be pursuing a future in the arts like some of the other glee kids?" Ms. Pillsbury asked.
"No, I don't think so,"
"Have you given any thought to what you might do instead?" She asked and Rosy hesitated slightly. They were veering into a territory that was less simple.
"I'm not sure." Rosy said carefully and Ms. Pillsbury nodded.
"That's perfectly normal, Rosy, lots of people feel that way at this stage and even after. I would be happy to help you figure that out, if you'd like." Ms. Pillsbury offered and Rosy hesitated again.
"I don't know, sometimes I just feel like I'm perfectly okay at a lot of things, but never really good enough at anything to actually pursue a career in it," Rosy admitted slowly. The fear had been something that had been bouncing around her head for a while now, but this was the first time she'd been able to put it into words, and saying it out loud felt scary.
