Jace, Ty, Lana and I had planned to go on a picnic today since the weather was warm. As we all had classes till 1pm, we decided to get together an hour later and drive away. After waking up, I rapidly put an outfit on, brushed my hair, took my bag and left the room. My phone suddenly buzzes and I take it out to look at the notification. I click on the group chat and start reading the messages.
Jace *I'm really excited for today.*
Ty *Me too.*
*Guys, I need to go grocery shopping for the picnic.* I type the words and press send.
Jace *I can come with you.*
Ty *Me too.*
*Cool, let's meet up in front of the campus after classes then.*
*Yes ma'am" they both answer and I put the phone back in my bag.
I realise that I haven't talked to Henry in a while and so I pick up the phone and call him. He picks up on the third ring.
*Hey* I greet him.
*Hi* he greets me back and sounds surprised.
*Did I scare you, Henry?* I refer to his reaction and hear a little laugh at the other line of the phone.
*No, I just didn't expect you to call me* he clears up.
*Makes sense.* I say and make a quick pause. *Listen, how many clases do you have today?* I ask.
*I'm done by 12, why?* he answers with a question.
*Cool, you're going to a picnic with us then.* I respond.
*When?* he asks.
*Today, at 2pm, I'm driving.* I answer his question precisely.
*Alright. Who will be there?* he asks another question.
*It'll be me, Ty, Jace and Lana* I reply.
He stays silent for a couple of seconds and I decide to go on talking.
*2pm in front of our campus.* I say.
*Wait, do you need me to bring anything?* he almost interrupts me from saying goodbye to him and hanging up.
*No, I'll go shopping before we drive off.* I answer.
*Okay, see you then.* he says and I say the same before hanging up.
I often find myself getting distracted during lectures as I had the picnic on my mind. Luckily, they end almost without me realising how fast the time passed. After the last class of the day ends, I leave the lecture room and rush outside. Jace and Ty were already waiting in front of the college for me. I greet them and tell them to follow me to my car. We step in it and I drive to the nearest grocery store which is 15 minutes away.
"What do we need to buy?" Jace asks.
"Some snacks, drinks and that should be it." I answer. "You guys, I invited Henry to come with us." I announce and catch both of their attention.
"Really? I actually talked to him today and said that we were going on a picnic and asked him if he wanted to come with us but he said no." Jace says.
"That's mad. Well, he didn't deny my offer, so we're good." I answer and giggle without thinking too much about why he didn't accept Jace's offer.
After putting a bunch of bags of crisps, biscuits, chocolate, sandwiches, water and juice in the shopping cart, we go to the check out and leave the supermarket. We drive back to the campus and wait on Henry and Lana. Both come five minutes later. Lana puts the blanket that she had taken with her into the back of the car and gets in. Jace was sat in the passenger seat and so Ty, Henry and Lana were sat in the backseat. They all put their seatbelts on.
"Ready?" I ask and hear a "yes" from all of them at the same and giggle at their response.
I start the engine and drive off. The drive should take not longer than 50 minutes.
"Where are we going though?" Henry asks from the backseat.
"You'll see." I say and turn on the radio.
After hearing the first song on the radio, Henry reaches for it and turns it off. "Oh come on, I can put on way better music than that, that was trash." he exclaims.
"Alright, connect your phone and put on some better music then, ey." I tease and laugh.
He does as instructed and puts on a Drake song. I start slightly bopping my head to the beat and suddenly everybody starts singing very loudly and I let the windows roll down. The atmosphere reminded me of a movie, because that is how the vibe in the car was, just like in the movies. We were singing and laughing. The ride was so entertaining, that I did not even notice how we got there. The 50 minute drive felt like 20 minutes.
The location that I had picked for the picnic was a meadow and there was no place near it to park and so I had to park a bit away from it, but it was a five minute walk from there. We get out of the car and take out the stuff out of the back of the car. I take some of the groceries and so does Henry while Lana takes the blanket and her jukebox.
We start walking uphill, Ty and Lana were walking ahead of us.
"So this is the car you were talking about?" Henry starts a conversation.
"Sure is. It's beautiful innit?" I ask in response.
"Yeah, no doubt." he answers and lets out a little laugh.
"Why are you laughing?" I ask in a soft tone to not sound harsh and look at him.
He looks down on the ground before answering. "Nothing, I just love your accent." he replies.
I laugh at his response and so does Jace. Henry explains his adoration of the British accent on the way there, making us laugh and we soon reach the meadow.
"This place is amazing." Lana comments and I realize that it is the first thing that she said since we drove off from the campus.
"I know." I say and this makes her laugh.
Me and her set everything up and everybody takes a seat on one corner of the blanket. Everybody takes something to eat and pours themselves a drink. A little later Lana puts on music and lays down.
I lay down on the ground and start staring at the blue sky. I feel the fresh chilly air on my skin and smile at the feeling. "Isn't the sky beautiful?" I think out loud and hear a "yes" from Ty who was also watching it.
Lana had brought her retro camera with her and told us to start taking pictures before it got dark. The boys and I sat beside each other and posing and Lana starts taking a lot of pictures, then joins us and turns the camera around to be in the frame.
The time passes by as we enjoy each other's company and interesting stories.
