Two weeks had passed and due to their intense and productive working, the lawyers were done dealing with the case and had arranged an appointment with the court. Richard was going to have two trials and tomorrow were both Christina's and my fight against him. I wasn't ready for it but I kept thinking that I was going to leave it behind me once it's done. This whole conflict was distracting me from my uni work, which I found annoying. Jace and Ty both had asked to go with me but I couldn't allow them that as they would be missing their lectures. My dad was coming here and I didn't need any more company.
Dad and I had agreed on meeting in front of the court. My fight was at 12, which meant I had to leave the campus forty minutes earlier to make it there a little bit before the trial officially started. I took a look at the time and decided that I had to leave. I took my bag with me which only had a bottle of water, a little snack box, my phone and perfume in it.
I locked my door and went down the stairs, leading to the exit of the campus. I breathed in the fresh, cool air and took another deep breath and reminded myself that everything was going to be alright. Thinking about the trial, I stepped into my car and started the engine. To make the ride a bit more fun, I put on some music and started singing to it.
In thirty minutes, I had arrived at the court. I quickly found a spot to park and walked in the building. There were security guards at the entrance. I was welcomed by their friendly smiles. In order to walk any further, I had to give my bag for a scan and check up. That went very smoothly and I was given the entrance and my bag was handed back to me.
I started searching the room that the trial was going to take place in. The information tables on the walls led me to the second floor and I found the room. I took a seat on the chair and took out my phone out of my bag and texted my dad, saying that I was waiting for him.
After five minutes of waiting, my dad approached me. I stood up as soon as I saw him and went in for a hug. He hugged me tightly and gave me a warm smile.
"How are you, honey?" he starts to speak.
"I'm fine." I reply.
We talk for a minute and suddenly our lawyer arrives with a big black folder in his hand.
"Hello Mr. Anderson." my lawyer greets my dad and gives him his hand.
"Mrs. Anderson, I can tell you are nervous but there is no need to be as we are going to win the fight anyways." he assures me with a strict smile. I nod and crack a smile at the edge of my mouth in response and look at my father, not knowing what to say.
After waiting for about ten minutes while listening to the conversation between my dad and the lawyer, the door of the court room is opened by a blond woman in her 50s with a black suit and trousers. Having noticed this, my lawyer stands up and takes a step towards the woman.
"Anderson against Wilson?" she asks and our lawyer responds, confirming her question and she guests us to walk into the room.
We sit on the right side of the room and I look to the front and notice Richard and his lawyer sitting by the table opposite from us. I gave him a disgusted look and he saw it but chose to ignore me. Was it childish of me to do what I just did? Maybe but I could care less.
The trial started, the case had been opened. The whole situation wasn't tense at all. The defending seemed pretty easy for our lawyer. Turns out Wilson had been found guilty and sentenced for 5 years because of sexual assault which meant it doesn't matter what the outcome of this fight was going to be, he was still going to jail. Thinking about that made me somewhat happy.
"Mr. Wilson you had a knife with you on the night that you stabbed Mrs. Anderson in the leg, correct?" the judge asks and looks over to Richard.
"Yes." he shorty answers.
"Do you always carry a knife with you?"
"No, your honor."
"So how come you had a knife on you that night?"
"I was at the bar before that and I had taken one with me without a big reason."
"A big reason you say. What was the small reason then?"
A little sarcasm from the judge? That amuses me. He looks at the table and takes a deep breath before answering, like he thought of what to say.
"It's just that a bar is the place where fights break out often and I had taken one just in case."
"Just in case of what?"
"I had thought of it as a self defence tool."
"I see. Did you ever use that knife against Christina?"
"No sir"
"Not even to threaten her?"
"No"
What a twat this man is. Even in front of the jury he dares to lie.
After a couple of back and forth questions, the lawyers fighting against each other the judge asks if he regrets what he did. Does it even make any sense to ask this? Will it change something if he says yes? No. So why the fuck did the judge just ask that?
Wilson clears his throat as if he had a knot in it and says "I do. It was very stupid of me to do that but that was me being overprotective of Christina."
Fucking liar I think to myself. Overprotective, yeah? Well, now you can go fucking rot in jail for being so "overprotective". I almost say all of this out loud but that would make me look stupid.
It is my turn to be asked the long questions and so with a deep breath and a lot of talking to myself in my brain, I show that I am ready.
"Mrs. Anderson, on the night of the incident of Mr. Wilson attacking Mrs. Scott, you were present and decided to attack Mr. Wilson after noticing his aggressive behaviour towards the defendant" he pauses and looks away from his paper at hand. "Is that correct?" he continues.
"Yes, your honor."
"Had you seen Mr. Wilson or had any contact with him in any form before the night of the incident?"
"No. your honor".
Several questions later from the judge and Richard's lawyer, I am free to go back to my seat again.
The trial ends some minutes later and we are informed that the jury will soon make his decision. My dad gives me a warm smile and grabs my hand, assuring me that everything will be alright.
The judge enters the room and everybody is told to stand up. We do as we are told are aim our eyes at the judge.
"Herewith, Mr. Wilson is found guilty of assault and violence against Mrs. Anderson. You are obliged to pay £1000 fine and you are sentenced to 6 months of serving in jail. The trial has ended." he announces.
£1000 fine? Like I need that money. I need him to suffer, I don't need a cent from that filth.
We soon leave the room and stand in front of the door.
"Well that wasn't too bad, was it?" our lawyer asks and looks at me.
"Indeed." I answer and smile just a bit.
My dad and him talk for a while until he announces that he has to leave for another fight.
"It was a pleasure working for you Mr. Anderson. Call me if you ever need anything again." he says and shakes my father's hand and then mine.
"Right, now that that is done, let's go eat." he says and I nod in response.
We leave the facility and get in the car. Dad picks out a restaurant to eat and drives off.
