Prologue
The shock was an understatement. This is hilarious! Gusto kong magwala! But of course, I have to keep my smile on my face as I let my father introduce a man to me... the man I would marry probably next month or earlier.
"That is the man I want you to get married to, Maguirite. He looks good, yes?"
I didn't bother looking at the person he is pertaining to. Instead, I looked at him, trying to sense if I can bargain. But he has that look on his face saying you have no other choice since you were born as a woman.
"Yes, Dad." Maikli kong sabi. Wala naman ako magagawa sa gusto niyang mangyari.
He tapped my shoulders before heading towards the man. When he took their hand for a shake hand, I did the same.
"This is Blaire Maguirite, the heir to the throne of West Clan," Dad proudly introduced, contrary to what he really felt for me.
"A princess..." The man muttered in astonishment. "Nice to meet you, Princess."
I smiled as a response. If I am not mistaken, this is King Archirale of the South Clan. One of the most prosperous clans, next to East Clan.
"It's a surprise that the Queen is not beside you, Edward."
Dad chuckled. "Ah. She'll be late. She's having a headache because of our youngest. You know that kid. She's... how would I describe her?"
"It's normal for a child at her age, believe me. With the triplets back then, it was a disaster every day," King Archirale said and heartily chuckled.
"Papa," the man grunted. I looked at him and there's a small smile on his face. His dimples are on full show.
"Ah I forgot that you're here," King Archirale said to the man beside him.
When we stopped at a certain side of the hall, I took that chance to look around. Everything is exquisite. From the ceiling decorations down to the floor tiles. It shouts elegance. Probably because it was hosted by Queen Selene, wife of King Archirale.
"Having fun?"
I raised an eyebrow before I glanced at the person who had the guts to talk to me. I nearly let out a growl when it was the man beside the King. The man I will marry as my father said.
"Do I look like I am having fun?" I retorted after making sure that father is busy enough.
"Did I... offend you in some way perhaps?" He asked, cautious of his approach now.
"No."
He tilted his head. "But you seem nice earlier with the elders. That's why I asked if I did something wrong to you."
I took a deep, deep breath before answering him. "I said I am not mad."
"Alright," he said, finally surrendering.
Good. This is annoying as hell. He doesn't even know that he will get married to me! Probably it was my father's initiative again. He really can't stand a day without thinking who will lead our clan once he is gone.
"So you were just faking your emotions earlier," the man started again.
I brought back my gaze at him and glared. "Are you really this talkative?" More like annoying.
"No... you just made me curious. You were smiling earlier than all that disappeared when I approached you."
I chuckled sarcastically. "Why are observing me in the first place? I piqued your curiosity?"
"The hostility in your face is gone now. You have sharp eyes but your brown eyes make it look like you have soft eyes. And oh, your brows... it's meeting now," he said pointing out my expression.
"Can you stop?" I hissed.
But he didn't, much to my disappointment. "Oh, you have sharp jaws as well. Where did you inherit your pointed nose?"
"Just!" I took a deep breath and smiled. "Keep your mouth shut if you want to stand beside me."
The man chuckled again. Parang ginawa niya akong personal clown ngayong gabi.
"You are Sean's type. Definitely his type," he said, shaking his head.
I blinked several times at him. He really doesn't know then. The way he suggests another man's name. Stupid.
"But you are not my type, Princess," he smirked and showed me his hand. "I'm married."
My lips parted in confusion. Then he suddenly walked and tapped another man's shoulder and whispered.
They... they look like each other! Literally resembles each other. Their height, body built, and face!
Goodness. King Archirale mentioned that they were triplets! Why did I overlook that? This is utterly embarrassing. But it a good thing it wasn't him because I won't be able to stand his talkativeness. And I didn't say anything about marriage! But he knew already though with the way he announced his status. Great, Blaire.
The man that the talkative man talked to walked towards me. His hair is disheveled making it look messy look. His hands were inside his front pockets while walking leisurely.
The confidence, huh. He knows he is good-looking and he isn't someone to hide it.
"Sean, there you are, son," King Archirale immediately noticed his son's presence.
His name is Sean. Sean what? I hope it's something different from his brothers para alam ko kung ano ang itatawag ko sa kaniya.
"Good evening," he bowed down to both gentlemen. And looked at me with a smile before offering his hand as a sign of greeting.
Trying to act like a shy lady, I handed my hand to him which the latter kissed the back of it, like how greetings should be.
"My lady," he muttered before raising his head.
"See? That's why I like Sean as my son-in-law. He was born with grace!" My father exclaimed like he isn't offering marriage.
King Archirale laughed as well as Sean. As my father said, he is born with grace. He is too graceful in my eyes. Like a gentleman on a different level.
"This is Blaire Maguirite. I hope you two can work something," father said, giving me an eye signal.
I faced Sean with a smile, sweet and charming smile. "Blaire," I introduced myself.
"Sean Ruzzel. Nice to meet you, Your Highness."
"Likewise," I replied.
Parehas kami hindi nagsalita at nagtitinginan lang. We were both observing each other's moves. Or not. He seems genuinely nice.
When we heard a cough, I realized that we were still holding each other's hand kaya mabilis akong bumitaw.
I looked away, embarrassed. Then I saw my mother approaching, making me stand straight and chin up.
If my father was obsessed with the hierarchy in our clan, then my mother is obsessed with perfection.
I felt uncomfortable with the fact that Sean will witness how fake my family is. I know he isn't dumb. With the way he observes earlier, I know he isn't narrow-minded.
"Mother," I welcomed and went near her to position my head as if I'm kissing her cheeks.
When I returned to my position, I saw how Kuya Vince sighed at the interaction.
"Glad you're all here. I just talked the Bureau of Ministry and they said we can schedule the unity by the end of the month."
End of the month. That's the week after next week. That fast. Fine. I will also benefit in that marriage anyway. I don't need to walk on egg shells anymore because knives from my parents aren't on my throat now since they will get what they want.
I looked at the man I will marry. He was looking at me as well. I smirked.
Yes, Sean Ruzzel. I will marry you just to get out of my wrecked life.
