Chapter Thirty-One

Sean (Part 1 of 5)

The Eastern Side

"Kuya Seaaaaan!" I heard Elise's voice from a distance. Alam kong malayo pa siya pero sadyang matinis ang boses niya kaya dinig ko parin.

I immediately removed the exhaustion expression from my eyes and made it like I have a hundred and one percent energy to play with her.

This isn't a forced action though. It's just that I know how lonely Elise is and even one of us comes home, she will still welcome us warmly. She is that hopeful to play with someone.

For some reason, she doesn't like the playmates assigned to her. Mas pinipili pa niyang antayin kung sino man mauna sa aming tatlo. This time, I finished my task early kaya naman kahit pagod, mas pipiliin ko parin makasama si Elise.

She was holding her small crown on her head as she ran towards me. Sa kabilang kamay ay bitbit niya ang kaniyang manika.

She looked so adorable with her dimples and scrunched face. I crouched to level our eyesight, para hindi siya nakatingala sa akin.

I gently wiped the sweat on her forehead and neck. "What took you so long, Kuya?" She asked in her usual demanding voice.

"Who am I first?" I teased her because she didn't mention my name.

Mas lalo siyang sumimangot sa akin. She probably called my name earlier because the lady attendant told her about my arrival. Ngayon nakalimutan na niya agad.

She sometimes forget our names. Ah, not sometimes. I understand it though, nakakatawa lang kasi minsan na yung sikreto niya kay Cean ay nasasabi niya rin sa amin ni Zean dahil akala niya ay iisang tao lang ang pinagsasabihan niya.

"Kuya..." she trailed off to make a guess. I waited for it, patiently. "Sean."

I clapped and kissed her cheeks when she got it right. "I knew you could it, my princess."

Matapos non ay hinila na niya ako para makipaglaro. My butler went to my side as I try to remove my coat. He offered me another dress shirt to change pero Elise called me again inside her room kaya umiling na lang ako.

"Wow, you have new toys, Elise?" I exclaimed and sat on the floor.

She nodded excitedly and pointed to her new toys. Father must have bought her something when he went away. Hindi naman bago iyon. It was his way to compromise for his lack of attention towards his youngest.

"Kuya," Elise called while I was fixing her cooking utensils. Tumingin ako sa kaniya at nakita ko ang paglungkot ng mukha niya.

It alarmed me. I never wanted to see Elise with that expression because she deserves nothing but happiness.

"What is it?" Malambing kong tanong sa kaniya.

She hesitated a bit but she gave up after a while. I know I just have to be patient with her because, at a very young age, Elise thinks differently. Pakiramdam ko mas madami pa ang laman ng isip niya kesa sa akin.

"I missed Mama's cooking. When will they come back? Why aren't they coming like you? Even other Kuyas! Don't you want to play with me?"

I sighed and made her sit in my lap habang pinupunasan ko ang namuong luha sa mata niya.

"They will back soon, Elise. Don't you want to play with Kuya Sean? Are you bored?"

Umiling siya sa akin. "Kuya is tired," maliit na boses ang pagkasabi niya pero narinig ko iyon.

Did she notice it? I smiled at her to assure her even a bit. "No... Kuya is strong, Elise. I am not tired at all. How about this, we'll play outside? You want that?"
