Chapter Ten

Newlyweds

Under the serene moonlight, I saw how the glint in his eyes changed. I am certain there was firm defiance in it but his smile says otherwise.

"I'm sorry for deciding on my own, Sean," I said upon the realization that he might want to have one. "But I really don't have any plans of having one."

His soft smile remained on his lips as if it was glued there. "As I said, it's your body, Blaire. And I understand you, I'll always do. Isn't that what husbands do?"

I chuckled but it died down afterward. "Sean," tawag ko. "Do you want to have a child?"

He stared at me but before he could even open his mouth to answer my question, I heard my attendant calling out my name. Tumalikod ako kay Sean para humarap doon sa tumatawag sa akin.

"You are needed inside the hall, Your Majesty."

That night ended with my question left unanswered. We were both tired so when we retired in our bedroom, hindi na din kami nakapag-usap. I also don't think he would easily open that topic again kaya mas minabuti ko na lang huwag na din buksan.

I covered my eyes when I felt the sun's heat heating my face. What time is it? I slowly opened my eyes to take a peek at the clock placed on my side table. Doon ako bigla napabangon. It's nearly lunch time!

I held my head because of the sudden movement. I heard the bathroom door opened and I know it's Sean. But what I didn't expect was him, crouching so close to me with his bathrobe wrapped around his body. 

"Hey, you okay?" He softly asked.

Pakiramdam ko mas sumakit ulo ko sa itsura niya. I cleared my throat and I acted like his look right now didn't give me any chills. "I'm fine, don't worry. What time did you wake up?" 

Lumayo siya sa akin at pumasok sa dressing room. He answered while inside that room. "Probably an hour before you woke up."

Tumango kahit di niya nakikita at tumayo na mula sa kama. I was about to open the terrace of the room when I remembered I haven't showered. Nakasanayan ko na kasi tumambay dito kapag tanghali. 

By that, I went inside the bathroom to take a shower. Like what Sean did, dumeretso ako sa loob ng dressing room after taking a bath. I picked the mustard-colored off-shoulder dress. It fits my body, more like, it hugs my body pretty well.

Since it's our first morning together, attendants probably thought it's awkward to enter the room kaya ako ang nag-ayos sa sarili ko. I just placed a light makeup and let my wavy hair down. 

 Then Sean stood up from the couch kaya napahinto ako sa pag-aayos. He went beside me which made me turn to his side. "What is it?"

"This... this will look good on you," he said and took my hand. He slowly slid a ring in my finger. 

My lips parted at the sight of the beautiful ring. This isn't an heirloom ring of the South but damn, it looks so magical on my finger. "Sean..."

"A proof that you are really my wife," he said while staring at my finger. 

"You still can't believe that I am your wife?" 

He shook his head. "Not anytime soon."

Natawa ako sa kaniya at nagpasalamat bago kami sabay lumabas ng kwarto. As expected, attendants and butlers were lined up outside our room. We were escorted to the dining hall where my parents are waiting.

"Here come the newlyweds," Mama exclaimed.

I snorted. "Please, stop it."

Blaire laughed at my remark before continuing her meal. Sean pulled out a chair for me and he settled himself beside me. Tahimik kaming kumakain hanggang sa matapos iyon. When Papa sipped on his water, the questioning started.

"So what is your plan for today, Blaire?"

"Well, advisors and ministers asked for our presence. It is to officially commence our reign."

Papa nodded. "The feedback last night was good. You look perfect together, Sean."

"Thank you, Your Majesty," Sean said. Nag-usap pa sila tungkol sa training ni Sean kaya tinuloy ko na lang ang pagkain ko.

Then I noticed Vie's gaze on my finger. Nang pumitik ako sa harap niya ay napakurap siya at ngumiti sa akin. "Sorry, I'm a bit lightheaded kaya natutulala ako."

After that meal ay umalis na din kami ni Sean. He kept on sighing on the way kaya alam kong kinakabahan siya. After all, decisions would come from him. He cannot ask my opinion everytime. 

Iyon din naman ang ikinakakaba ko. Sean is too nice for his own good. He is too softy to people kaya alam kong mahihirapan siya kapag dumating sa punto na kailangan niya ito hatulan. In my opinion, he won't be able to judge them harshly. 

But the world is harsh. 

He should realize that by now. Just one mistake and they managed to take away his sister's crown. Just like that. Because no matter how kind a person is, it cannot change how the world works.

It just so happen that Sean's trait is too much for this kind of Society. And I'm afraid that this will cause his downfall. 

When we arrived in the meeting hall, everyone stood up and I just nodded at them. Sean, as usual, bowed down his head to every person. When we were both settled, doon lang sila umupo. 

"We once again congratulate you on your marriage, Your Majesty," I nodded at them before asking. "Why are you asking for our presence if you are aware that we just got married?"

"Our apologies, Your Majesty. But this is an urgent matter to discuss."

"You can present the matter, Minister," Sean respectfully said. I mentally sighed at the way he addresses them. 

"Tallia Francheska Garcos is asking for a petition, Your Majesty. She wanted to cut off her relationship with her father, legally."

I stopped tapping my fingers on the table and waited for the actual problem. "But?"

"But her father is in debt and used her as payment for it. Once their relationship is revoked, her father's debt will be transferred to her because of the signed agreement. But Tallia, the petitioner, doesn't have the money to pay for her father's debt."

I looked at Sean, waiting for his decision. 

It's not like we could pay for her debt because it's between her and the creditor. This problem was addressed to us, not because of the debt but to cut the ties legally. But how can we do that when an issue regarding the debt is involved?

When Sean raised his head after looking down for so long, I know he already came up with an answer. I confidently sat beside him and looked at him.

"Nullify the previous agreement. It is against the law to sell a family as payment, immoral for that matter. Draft a new agreement with the creditor stating that Tallia's father will be the one paying the debt. If the creditor won't agree, have the person present themselves in front of us. This is an order."

Ngumiti ako ng palihim sa sinabi ni Sean. Such a rightful King. 

When the Ministers acknowledged his order and said that they will carry it out right away, we left the hall. Pero bago pa kami makapasok sa sasakyan, humarap bigla sa akin si Sean.

"I did well, right?" 

Ngumiti ako sa kaniya at tinignan ang mata niya. The sun behind him made his appearance in front of me a bit darker. His eyes were a bit wide, probably because of nervousness. I raised my hand to caress his cheeks and stared at his mesmerizing eyes. 

"You made me proud, Sean."
