Chapter Twenty-Five

Dusk's

I sighed for the nth time. It's just nearly lunchtime yet I lost count on how many times I sighed as I look at the empty space in front of me. The grass looks lively but why do I feel otherwise? To me, it was withered grass. I don't know but the sight of it annoys me.

"Is there... something wrong, Your Majesty?" The lady attendant asked me and I gave her a nod.

I pointed to the space in front of me and said, "I feel exhausted looking at it. Everything annoys me inside the palace."

Tumingin ako sa kaniya at nakita ko ang pag-awang ng bibig niya dahil sa narinig mula sa akin. She looked stupefied. "Maybe you want to see another scenery, Your Majesty," she suggested.

Napatayo ako at humarap sa kaniya. "That! That's the exact feeling I have right now." I've been staying inside the palace for weeks now. Pakiramdam ko nababaliw na ako kung di ako makaalis. It's suffocating. I've never felt this kind of frustration... just now.

"Oh! Kuya Vince!" Tawag ko nang makita ko siyang papalabas. He's wearing casual clothes which means he will go out to the capital. Lihim akong napangiti sa naisip... I could ask him to bring me along. 

I walked towards him and smiled. Pero mukhang nakaramdam na agad siya dahil ngumiwi siya sa akin. But I still remained beaming at him. 

"You going somewhere?" I asked.

He nodded hesitantly. "Ves wanted to see me and I haven't gone to Capital for a while now."

"Can I..." I trailed off when he immediately shook his head. 

"You can't, that's my answer," mariin niyang sagot. 

I want to stomp my feet so bad but that would only make him reject me again. Instead, I smiled widely at him. "You don't have to bring me along! You can just drop me off at Dusk's! And oh, I will ask my parents' permission!"

"And you honestly think, they will allow you, in your condition?"

Hindi ako sumagot at pakiramdam ko alam na din niya ang sagot. "I'll try first, Kuya, wait for me," sabi ko at umalis sa harap niya para punatahan ang magulang ko.

They announced my arrival and it was my Mother who let me in. She was busy reading something but she stopped upon my entrance. Like usual, I bowed down my head and fixed my posture as a lady.

"Is there something wrong, Blaire?" 

Umiling ako at lumapit sa kaniya. "I just want to ask for your permission. Kuya Vince is going to the Capital and I wanted to be dropped off at Dusk's. They can fetch me after they are done."

"Ah... Vince? Right, he told me about his travel," she nodded. "And you were suggesting, what? That they will fetch after they are done? What if they won't be done by the day? You will stay at Dusk's?"

"Queen..."

"Have you forgotten your etiquette, Blaire? No woman could spend her night at somebody else's turf other than her own. Did you even consider this before making that suggestion? And... and your condition!"

Her voice when she said the word condition... it seems like she hated the idea. I looked at her expression and I was right. It slipped. That's why... that's why for the past few days, I felt something off but I disregarded it. 

"Queen... I was merely asking for permission to go out. I... I don't want to point this out but we are already here. Queen, do you hate the idea of me being pregnant?"

My mother's eyes hardened. "You being pregnant? No, I have no problem. But you being pregnant at this age? There is! We only asked for marriage... but how could you be pregnant at a very young age?"

"I was clear about our issue, Blaire! How could you end up like that? You didn't even get the chance to live like a young lady. I have so many dreams for you, Blaire. Is the baby your only way to make Sean stay with you?"

"Mother! Do you really think I am that stupid? I... I also didn't dream of being pregnant at this age. But when I did it with Sean, I have pure intentions and that is to build my own family with him. Nothing else!"

"I didn't even think of making my child the way to patch things up with Sean because it wasn't his responsibility, mother. If I wanted to give him a complete family, I would find a way on my way... and my baby as the way is not one of it."

I didn't wait for my mother's response and just stormed off. Naghihintay si Kuya Vince sa akin sa baba at nang makita niya ako ay tumayo agad siya. "Let's cool your head."

I followed his lead towards his car. He opened the door for me and closed it the moment I settled myself inside. I think I slept the whole ride because when I opened my eyes, fields welcomed my sight. Nandito sila Dusk?

"You're awake... malapit na tayo kila Dusk. I bought some food for Lady Renee and for you," Kuya Vince said while driving with one hand. 

Tumango ako sa kaniya habang inaayos ang buhok. "Where are you going with Yves?"

"Probably just near here para madali kitang masundo."

"Don't do that! Don't adjust your itinerary for me. I can wait for your arrival or I could call someone from the Palace."

Kuya Vince sighed as he parked the car on the side. "Look, I will go home tonight kahit di ka sumama. I have no place to stay kaya uuwi ako."

Tumango na lang ako sa kaniya kaya bumaba na siya para pagbuksan ako. When I got out, I can feel the cold breeze. Napayakap agad ako sa sarili ko lamig. Dusk came running out of their house para salubingin ako.

"What the hell is going on? Pinalayas ka ba? Bakit ka nandito?" Sunod sunod na tanong niya at tumingin kay Kuya Vince para humingi ng sagot.

"I feel frustrated inside the palace kaya lumabas ako..." 

Dusk looked suspicious of my answer pero tumango naman si Kuya Vince kaya nawala ang duda sa mukha niya. After giving me a look, inaya na niya ako bahay nila pero nagpaalam na si Kuya Vince para umalis kaya naiwan kaming dalawa.

"Seriously, anong ginagawa mo dito?"

I stopped walking and looked at him in annoyance. "Seriously, why do you feel so tense that I am here?"

Hindi siya sumagot at nag-iwas ng tingin bago tumuloy sa paglakad. "I am not, I just can't believe you left the Palace." That was a nonsense answer but Dusk has always been like that, giving me nonsense answers when he doesn't want to talk about it.

"Ma! Blaire's here," tawag ni Sean pagpasok sa bahay nila. Their house looked so clean and minimalist. It definitely feels like home.

Lady Renee got out from their kitchen holding a pot. The smell reached where I was standing and I suddenly feel nauseous. I gripped Dusk's arm to support my standing position dahil pakiramdam ko babagsak ako kahit anong oras. 

"Oh! Mom cooked!" It was Dawn's voice, Dusk's twin, from behind, but I was too dizzy to acknowledge her presence. I heard her footsteps nearing me when she said, "Blaire? Anong meron?"

Dusk understood why I suddenly gripped on him. He carefully wrapped his arms around para maalalayan ako sa pagtayo. When he was about to take a step para maka-upo ako, a familiar voice filled my ears.

"I believe it's my wife you're holding right now."
