Chapter One

Queen In the Making

"Your Highness! Your Highness! Your Highness!" 

I slowly rose up from the water upon hearing the attendants. They knew I am here but they aren't aware that I am underwater. It doesn't matter why no one bothered to check up on me beneath the surface, I am more concerned as to why they were looking for me.

"Your Highness! Nandyan ka lang pala," my attendant immediately went near me, followed by the others.

They hovered over me kaya hindi ko mapigilan mainis. I know that they should stay real close to me but I would appreciate it if they give me personal space. 

My all-around attendant handed me the robe to cover my body. I wore the plain white bathrobe around me as I let my long brown hair dripping behind me.

Then I walked towards the lounge to grab my drink when one of the attendants did it for me. Kinuha ko naman ang inumin na hawak niya and I sipped on it before asking the commotion earlier.

"Why are you looking for me?" Malamig kong tanong sa kanila. When no one bothered to talk, I loudly placed the glass on the table. "Don't let me repeat my question."

My head snapped to my personal attendant, the one that assists me all around. Mabilis naman siya sumagot nang naramdaman niya ang tingin ko. "The Queen insists that you should start preparing for your visitors, Your Highness."

I took a deep breath and looked up in the sky. The sun is shining brightly. Bummer. I wanted to swim a bit more. I thought I could relax today, guess I hoped for a miracle.

"Are they preparing right now?" Tanong ko at nagsimula nang maglakad papunta sa main house.

Mabilis silang sumunod habang sinasagot ang mga tanong ko. "Alert them, I will oversee the preparation myself. The Queen won't like it if she spotted even a bit of dust."

I made my way towards my room and showered. As I entered the bathroom, I heard footsteps outside and I'm sure they are currently preparing my outfit for tonight. They knew how I wanted to keep things in order for they watched me grow up.

After taking a bath, I went out and saw an empty room. Excellent work. They knew I don't want people around me as I dress up. They could fix my make-up and hair after I do my personal rituals.

I wore my white silk undergarment and covered it with another silk robe. Then I applied lotion to my body before ringing the bell as a sign that they could now enter my room. Mabilis naman silang pumasok habang ako ay naupo na sa pwesto ko.

I closed my eyes as I let them do their work. "I want to keep my hair straight," I ordered.

"Yes, Your Highness," the attendant responsible for my hair answered. 

"Amelia, what will be my route for the preparation?"

"You will head first in the kitchen, Your Highness. Followed by the Decorations, Clothing, Plants, Emergency, and Bureau of Hospitality," Amelia answered. 

My fingers stopped drumming when I noticed something. "There's a newly established Bureau?"

I heard her flipping the pages of her notepad to provide me the answer to my question. 

"Ah, it wasn't newly established, Your Highness," she said and I mentally smirked.

Of course, I know. I just wanted to hear her answer so when a guest later asked her, she will know how to respond. 

"It was previously handled by the Queen during the events but we were notified that it was passed down on you, Your Highness. Bureau of Plants are part of the decorations and they were responsible for maintaining the garden of the Clan. They also supply the flowers and plants needed as decoration, the reason why they were under the Bureau of Decoration."

I hummed when urged her to continue. "Next is the Bureau of Emergency. Their main task is to coordinate with all bureaus and come up with a backup plan. And lastly, the Bureau of Hospitality is now also under your duties, Your Highness. They were responsible for assigning butlers and attendants to cover the event."

"Thank you, Amelia. Did you alerted them?"

"Yes, Your Highness. I already passed the message to those Bureaus that you will be overseeing the preparation for the event." 

"Did you tell them the time?"

"Of course not, Your Highness," I can imagine her smiling right now. I like surprising those people to see whether they were really working.

There were times when I do a random inspection in every dorm and bureaus of the West Clan, to ensure that everything is under control. I don't want to have a bad shot with the Upper Clan. 

As soon as I am done with the preparation, I untied my robe to wear my clothing for the inspection. It was a square neck scarlet long dress with sleeves that reaches my forearm. I also wore my diamond bracelet and earrings.

Then I grabbed a portion of straightened hair from the back and placed it on my right shoulder. After wearing my shoes, I placed both of my hands on the pocket of the dress and started walking towards the Bureaus.

When they noticed my arrival, they immediately bowed down while I roamed around the area. Halatang madaming bisita mamaya dahil sa mga niluluto nila. 

Hmm. I looked at Amelia and she handed me a spoon so I can taste the soup they were currently heating. But before I do, like always, she tasted it first before giving me a nod to ensure that I won't be poisoned.

I nodded in approval after I tasted it. That is what I did in every meal they cooked. After leaving the kitchen, Amelia gave me my favorite drink, a mango shake. I want to remove the residue in my mouth.

With the drink in my hand, I continued my inspection. 

Just like the kitchen, they gave me their bow upon my arrival. I took a look at the space for the event and realized it will be really a huge event. I wonder what is the goal for this event this time. 

I checked every standing table and fixed the covering cloth whenever I see a mismatched fold or uneven length. Some workers apologized immediately but I didn't heed their attention. They should be thorough but then maybe they were, it's just my eyes were trained to notice every detail.

"Too much flower decoration. One vase would have sufficed," I pointed to the round tables. Mabilis naman nilang tinanggal ang iba and when they followed my order, I nodded.

Then I proceeded to the side decorations. "Place some candlelight around this area, this is too plain."

That is what I did for the remaining Bureaus. Once I'm done, I went back to the main house since it's almost sunset. As I sit on the couch, I looked at Amelia.

"Can you ask the kitchen to make some waffles for me? I might not be able to eat later on." Amelia nodded and left for the kitchen. 

While I remained sitting on the couch, I took the chance to massage my neck. This is going to be a long night and I have to be prepared for it. Ni hindi ko pa nga alam para saan iyong event.

Matapos kumain ay umakyat na ulit ako para mag-ayos. This time, I wore an off-shoulder lace dress with petals and a long train attached to the top. They tied my hair into a messy but classy look.

And as I stand in front of the door of the hall, I placed both of my hands in front with the signature gesture of my left hand holding the middle and pointing finger. When I nodded at Amelia, I plastered a welcoming smile on my face.

Walk like a Queen, Blaire Maguirite. This will be a long pretentious night.
