Chapter Twenty-One

Independent Woman

I slowly opened my eyes, wishing that everything was just a dream. But reality hit me hard when I saw no one sleeping beside me. It's really, really happening.  As I was staring at the empty space beside me, my stomach suddenly acted up, causing me to rush to the comfort room.

Alam ko naman dahilan bakit ako nagkakaganito. 

Stress.

Siguro nga sobra ang stress na nararamdaman ko ngayon kaya umabot na ako sa punto ng pagsusuka. 

I fixed myself and dressed up for the day. My attendants prepared a nude-colored collar flare dress with vintage details on the chest part. When I walked downstairs, everyone was trying to make sure I won't blow up. 

They knew my situation and they pity me. I hate this scenario kaya mas lalo kong ipinakita sa kanila na hindi apektado. I am not weak, hindi ako pwedeng magpadala sa mga ganito. I have the whole clan on my shoulders.

"Good morning, Your Majesty," Kuya Vince greeted upon seeing me. Umupo ako agad sa harap ng lamesa at binasa ang ibinigay niya sa aking papel.

I was about to drink a coffee when I read the context. "They were asking for my presence?" 

"Yes, Your Majesty. As per the rules, if the King is unable to fulfill his duties for the meantime, the power of deciding should be transferred temporarily to the highest-ranking person next to the King, which is you."

Matagal bago ako nakatango kay Kuya Vince. Sean has been doing his job way different from what my parents has been doing for the past years. Hindi ko alam kung dapat ko bang sundan ang mga naunang plano ni Sean o gamitin ang oras ang ibalik sa dati ang lahat.

But I don't want Sean to think that I revoked all his decisions because it was wrong and I didn't bother to tell him that. He will find it disrespectful... and will be disappointed in me. Hindi na nga niya ako maalala tapos papasamain ko pa loob niya.

"Are you going?"

I placed down the coffee before answering him. "I should, they will constantly ask for me if I won't."

"Alright, eat your breakfast and I'll escort you there."

"Aren't you busy, Kuya?"

Ngumisi siya sa akin bago umupo sa tabi ko at kumain. "Nope, at least not now."

I looked at him and tried to read his emotions. "Nahanap mo na si Ate Amara?" 

He stopped eating and shook his head. Hindi ko na ulit binuksan ang topic na iyon sa kaniya. I felt like he also doesn't want to talk about it. 

I slammed down my palms on the table and stood up. "I am here in front of you, idiots! Why are you still asking for Sean?"

"Your Majesty! This can't go on! We absolutely understand that His Majesty is not well enough to handle court issues, however, we should still abide by the rules!"

"And that's to replace him?" I mockingly chuckled at them. "What am I to you, ministers? An object that can be tied to anyone? Sean and I are married, you cannot revoke that just because he cannot perform his duties."

Nag-iinit ang ulo ko sa kanila. How could they ask me to cut my tie with Sean just because he is not performing his duties? Ano pa ba ang ginagawa ko? I am doing his part in leading this clan! 

"Why are you so bothered that I am leading this clan alone, huh? Because I am a woman? You think I should have someone to depend on?"

Nag-unahan sila sa pagtanggi sa paratang ko pero alam ko naman na totoo ang sinabi ko. This is the sole reason why my parents decided to marry off in the first place. Dahil iniisip nila hindi ko kakayanin. But they are wrong! I am doing an excellent job in leading our clan. 

Being an independent person is nice... but it doesn't mean having someone on your side is a burden. I am doing a great job right now because I know Sean will be proud of me... that I am not holding back anymore. That I am just doing what I think is the right thing for our clan. This is what he has always wanted. 

"Your Majesty! Please hear us out!" They kept on saying hanggang sa nakalabas na ako ng meeting room. Kuya Vince is waiting for me and shook his head nang marinig ang mga boses sa loob. 

I was about to continue walking when Kuya Vince stopped me. "East Clan called," he said and I smiled, hindi ko mapigilan ang tuwa sa narinig.

"Sean is asking for you, he is waiting for you, actually."

"What? Then let's hurry!" Nauna na akong maglakad at hindi pinansin ang iba pang sinabi ni Kuya Vince. 

Tinignan ko ang sarili ko sa salamin sa loob ng kotse. I still look decent naman. I just fixed my black dress a bit and brushed my hair. Ayaw kong magmukhang stressed sa harap ni Sean, baka biglang akuin non ang trabaho kahit na dapat ay nagpapagaling pa siya. 

"You seem excited," Kuya Vince said habang papunta kami sa hospital kung nasaan si Sean.

I nodded at him. "I am, this is the first time he called for me after a month of recovering. Do you think he already regained his memories?"

"I am not quite sure about that, Blaire. But let's hope for the best, hindi ka naman niya siguro papauntahin doon para sa wala."

I took a deep breath before opening the door of his room. Contrary to my expectation, he is alone and was sitting on his bed. Mukha ngang inaantay niya ako dumating. My heart is ramming inside my chest as I walk started to walk towards him. 

"Hi," bati ko dito. I was hoping I could receive the same response or even energy from him pero wala. That silence alone made me nervous. "I was told that you asked for me..."

Tumango siya sa akin. "I did."

Why... why is still cold to me like our first interaction after the accident? Hindi parin ba niya ako naalala? Why do I suddenly feel nervous about this conversation?

"Blaire," he called. 

He called my name. Sean called my name! Gusto kong magtatalon sa saya pero hindi ko magawa dahil sa facial expression niya. There is something about it na hindi ko matukoy.

He stared at me... and sighed. "I'm sorry..."

"F-for what, Sean?"

Pakiramdam ko ang hirap ng tanong ko sa kaniya kaya babawiin ko sana pero nagsalita siya ulit.

"Can you let me go?"
