Chapter Thirty-Four
Sean (Part 4 of 5)
Family
It's already late when I got home from meeting the advisers and ministers. They are really furious at my recent decisions but they could not harshly react because they knew I have Blaire's consent... if you can call it consent because Blaire just shrugged it off and let me decide everything.
I was removing my cuffs and sighed. I wonder if my wife is still awake? Napatingin ako sa taas and I found the person that was in my mind all day. She's in her safe place again, the balcony in our room. She's looking at the sky as if she tells them her worries.
Wife, tell me what's wrong. I also would like to know the thoughts in your mind.
But of course, I cannot verbalize that thought because I am a hard believer in some things better left unsaid. I wanted to know, badly, but I also want to respect her space. It's her safe blanket and I cannot take it away from her. If she were to open up to me, I want it to happen when she voluntarily does it, not when I asked her for it.
I found her walking inside from the balcony by the time I arrived in our bedroom. Her eyes widen upon my appearance but she quickly replaced it with relief. "I got worried because it's getting late and you're not yet here. What made you come home this late, by the way?" She asked.
Before answering her, I went towards her and gave her a kiss on the forehead, hoping that action itself could serve as my comfort to ease her unsaid worries.
"Ministers won't let me go easily that's why it ended up kind of late," I told her and dragged her to the seat beside the couch. She easily followed and gently anchored her arms on me. I smiled inwardly because Blaire is... clingy without her knowledge.
"And?" She inquisitively prompted.
I shrugged. "I told them that I won't change my decision because it is what I think is the right thing to do."
Blaire nodded and pursued her lips. That action... I know she wanted to say something but chose to keep her mouth shut. I stared at her eyes, silently begging her to let me know her thoughts. I wanted her to point out to me if I'm drifting away from the path I was supposed to be walking.
"What..." She trailed off but she got my attention already. "What made you think that it is the right decision?"
Napaisip ako sa tanong niya. I actually think that there are some decisions that you think are right yet they can cause greater damage. There are some decisions that will really force a person to do otherwise because of the consequences they carry.
"I learned it from my father, your father-in-law," I started. "I may not be the heir to Southern Clan but we were taught by him the same way. It is because according to him, a King may hold the highest power in the clan but he is still a human being and the actions of the King is no different from the actions of a man."
"What a nice lesson," Blaire commented with a small smile on her lips.
I chuckled. "Agree because until now, I lived up to those words. But if there is something that I instilled both in my mind and heart that would be his saying that the King is the people's father."
"That's why you empathize so much with people because you treat them as your own," Blaire said.
Tumango ako sa kaniya at hinawakan ang mukha niya. She has that proud look on her face that made me so happy. I really love seeing her facial expressions because only then could know I what she is feeling inside.
