Chapter 36 Mother Worries

Peeta POV

"Peeta? Come here please." Katniss calls from downstairs. I set my painting brush down and walk up to the living room to see her sitting on the couch. "You think Rye's okay?"

"Yeah, he's fine." I say sitting down next to her.

"Are you sure? I'm worried about him." she says looking down.

"Why? Its just school. I'm sure he's fine." I say wrapping my arm around her. She sighs and looks up into my eyes.

"It feels better having him here with us again." she says. "Like the way things were before."

"Me too. I'm happy about it and we'll work with Rye more." I say. She nods and looks down. "Kitty...come on." she smiles. "Just calm down. He's fine."

"Your right..I know. I just hate the thought of him at school and not knowing anybody." she says. I sigh and nod.

"I get that and I'm worried too but he's 14(I hope. I've lost this story abit) and he'll be okay." I say. She nods and snuggles closer to me. 

"Can we just have a lazy day? I don't feel like leaving." she says.

"Sure, why not." I say. She smiles. We sit there for abit before she jumps up, scaring the hell out of me. 

"Lets....make cheese buns!" she says smiling like a child.

"Wait..what?" I ask abit confused.

"I wanna make cheese buns!!" she says jumping up and down.

"Okay..okay calm down. I'll make you some." I say standing up and walking to the kitchen. She comes in shortly later. "You okay?"

"I just REALLY want cheese buns." she says making me smile.

"Okay then we'll make some." I say getting the stuff out. She stands there, smiling like she just saw a glitter eating unicorn that poops rainbows. "How many?" she thinks for abit.

"30!" she says.

"Wow...okay." I say. I don't know whats wrong with her but as long as she's happy and not worrying about Rye I'm happy. I cook up the first batch of 10 then 20 then finally 30.

"Yeeeeeeeeeeeees!!!" she says taking like..15 and running of into the living room. I roll my eyes and walk after her, finding her in the living room inhaling them. 

"Jesus Christ Katniss calm down." I say taking the rest from her. "You okay?"

"I'm more than okay. I just really really feel good for some reason." she says. "No give them back!" I hand them back and sit down next to her. We sit there for a good while till the door opens and Rye walks in with Emily. 

"Hey mom, dad." he says closing the door.

"Hey, how was school?" I ask. He shrugs and takes Emily's jacket. "Emily, how are you?"

"Really good. We wanted to do homework together and study." he says. I nod and they head upstairs. Katniss giggles and looks down.

"Study." she says making me frown.

"Katniss!" I say making her laugh. "They're 14. Geez." I shake my head.

"What? Thats what we used to do" she says.

"Good god no..well..we..Katniss!" I say making her laugh even more.

I'm sorry but its true!" she says eating the last of the cheese buns.

"Really? You ate all 30?" I ask abit annoyed she ate all.

"Yup, to bad for you." she says leaning back and turning the TV on. I sigh and sit back as well just as Jas and Bryant walk in.

"Hey little ones, where's Jace?" I ask. Soon after he walks in with cut up knees and a bloody cheek. Katniss jumps up and rushes over to you.

"What happened?" she asks.

"I slipped." he says looking down.

"Thats not true, he was beat up and pushed to the ground by Amber." Jas says. So much for being a little rat but they get their honesty from me.

"What?! Why?" I ask.

"She always does that when I don't have money." he says. I sigh as Katniss takes his hand and takes him to the bathroom.

"What do you two know about this?" I ask.

"Everything but we promised not to say anything. I'm sorry daddy." Bryant says looking down.

"Its okay, it was for your brother. I understand it." I say. "Head upstairs and play." they nod and rush up the stairs. I walk to the bathroom to see Katniss treating Jace's wounds.

"He's okay, just a few cuts and a light bruise on his cheek." she says as I kneel down.

"You really okay?" I ask.

"I'm fine." he says.

"This has been going on for a while?" I ask. He sighs and nods. "Why didn't you tell us?"

"I was worried." he says.

"We'll figure something out okay? You go get some rest." I say. He nods and leaves the bathroom, heading up to his room. I look to Katniss who I know is just as worried. My son is getting bullied, something I hoped he'd be safe from. Unlike I was.
