Peeta POV
"Daddy! Phone for you?" Jas calls from the kitchen. I set down my paints and leave my room, walking to the kitchen and taking the phone from her.
"Yes?" I say.
"Peeta!" Katniss says crying.
"What?! Whats wrong?" I ask worried.
"Rye..he..got hurt..you gotta come to the hospital." she says.
"What?! Why?" I ask, the worry builds in me.
"An accident..please hurry." she says before hanging up. It takes a few minutes to process everything I've been told before dialing Finnick's number.
"Yes?" he says.
"Finnick!" I say almost dropping the phone. "I need you to..to come over and take the kids..I gotta go to the hospital."
"What?! Why?!" he says.
"Katniss called! Rye got hurt!" I say.
"Oh god! Okay..I'll uhh...be there soon. Go already!" he says. I hang up and run to the living room, grabbing my jacket.
"Daddy? Whats wrong?" Jas asks.
"Daddy's gotta go somewhere, you watch after your brothers and Uncle Finnick's gonna be here soon, okay? No going outside, no playing in the kitchen or basement." I say giving her a kiss.
"Okay dad." she says. I get my key and rush out the door, getting to my car and starting it up. I pull out and drive as fast as I can down the empty road and to the highway, making my way through thin traffic and to the hospital. I park and run in to the front desk.
"I'm looking for my son and wife. Katniss and Rye Mellark." I say out of breath.
"You must be Peeta. I'll bring you to your wife." she says. I nod and follow her down the hallway to the elivator. We go up to the 4th floor and down another hallway. We come around a corner and I see a crying Katniss sitting across from a room.
"Katniss?" I say. She turns and jumps to her feet, running to me and into my arms full on crying. "What happened? Whats wrong?"
"He slipped and fell and his knife...he..fell on it.." she says. "I was gone..I wasn't there...I could've stopped it Peeta..its my fault." she cries even harder.
"Look, Mrs. Everdeen. Its not your fault. The chances that Rye would've fallen like that are 1 to 50." the nurse says. "But you can see him now." we nod and she opens the room door, letting us in to see Rye asleep in bed. The heart monitor beeping echos through the alomst empty room. We rush over to him Katniss taking his hand and kissing it lightly.
"I'm sorry Rye...so sorry." she cries.
"Its okay Katniss. Everything's okay." I say sitting down.
"Your gonna be okay...your gonna be out soon. Your gonna be happy and with us again." she says as the door opens and a doctor walks in.
"Mr. and Mrs.Mellark?" he says. We nod. "From the looks of it your son should be okay. We had to revive him twice due to blood lose but he's stable. The knife hit the side of his kidney but only a little cut." he says.
"Will he be okay?" I ask.
"He..umm..well...he's in a coma for now to heal. The knife did alot of inner damage and bleeding." he says. "We wanna wait until we know he can be up again."
"What if you can't wake him up?" Katniss asks.
"He should. Its very rare that we can't wake a patient up we put in a coma." he says. I nod and look back down to Rye. "You may stay here overnight if you want."
"I will." Katniss says.
"Alright, you can stay until tonight." he says to me. I nod and he leaves the room.
"See? He'll be okay." I say kissing her cheek. She nods and we sit there until Katniss starts to hum. "Hey, what song is that?"
"The Hanging Tree." she says looking to me.
"Could you sing it?" I ask. She sighs and nods.
"Are you..are you..coming to the tree
where they strung..up a man they say murdered three?

Her beautiful words echo lightly though the room leaving me with a smile.
"That was amazing Katniss." I say. She looks up and smiles and I notice a bunch of doctors standing behind us in the doorway with others smiling.
"It really was." one says but one sound breaks the peace. The sound of the heart monitor going flat.
