Peetas pov
We just picked up Rye from school. The therapy went well, and Katniss and I sorted out our disagreement. I hate it when we fight. I hate it. We have to tell Rye about the baby sooner or later.
"Rye, honey, come here?" Katniss says, her voice cracking. Rye comes over.
"What is it mum?" He asks.
"Umm, I don't know how to put this." She says tears in her eyes. She looks at me and I nod.
"Rye, we lost the baby." I say. Katniss lets a sob escape her mouth. I immediately put her in my arms.
"W-what?" He stutters. I nod. He begins to cry. Katniss lets go of me and hugs Rye. I have to stay strong. I envelope both of them in my arms.
"We will get through this, as a family." I say. Katniss nods.
"Yeah. We will." Rye smiles sadly.
"Together." He whispers. I ruffle his hair.
"I'm going to sleep." Katniss says.
"Okay honey. Rye? Wanna help me bake?" He nods while Katniss waddles upstairs. Rye goes to fetch his apron. I smile at my son. My son. I never imagined to be with Katniss. I always thought that she was going to marry Gale and have his kids." I sigh as I tie my apron. I get the ingredients out for cheese buns. Might as well make Katniss' favourite, to cheer her up. Rye STARTS to make the dough. He is so smart for his age. So independent. I smile at him.
"Dad?"
"Yeah?"
"Are you okay?"
"I'm fine Rye. I'm sad yes, but I'm staying strong for you and mummy." He hugs me.
"It's okay daddy, you don't need to be strong." That's when I loose it. I break down. Rye comforts me.
"Daddy, your okay." He says.
"Yeah, I am." I calm myself down as I wipe the last tears. I hug Rye.
"I love you son."
"I love you too daddy." We continue to finish the cheese buns. I feel hands wrap around my waist.i turn around. "Thank you." Katniss whispers.
"For what?"
"For not staying strong. I heard Rye and yours conversation. Peeta, the baby was yours as much as it was mine. You don't always need to stay strong. We are humans. We don't have superpowers. And sometimes we break down and fall until we are no more. Peeta, its okay." I kiss her.
"I love you" I say.
"I love you too."
