Chapter 38 Pay the Price

Rye POV

I'm taken down the hallway of the police station and into a room. The officer sits down at the desk. 

"Sit down Rye." he says writing something down. I sigh and sit down. "Alright, what happened?"

"This girl was attacking my brother. I helped him and she went after me so I pushed her but I didn't see her hit any rock." I say. He nods and writes again. "Can I call my parents?"

"They're already on their way." he says not looking up. I nod and look down to my feet. "Did you mean to hurt the girl?"

"No, I just wanted her to leave my brother alone." I say. He nods. "Will I go home today?"

"I'm not sure." he says as the door opens and mom and dad walk in but not with a happy face. "Ahh..Mr. and Mrs. Mellark."

"Rye what did you do?!" mom yells. This takes me by surprise cause she never yells.

"Nothing...I...it was an accident." I say. 

"Don't fucking lie to us!" dad yells and thats even worse. "What kind of son are you?!"

"Dad...please...I'm sorry." I say.

"No...I don't care what he did lock him up!" he says.

"What?! No! Please...take me home...please." I beg. They look at me with disgust.

"Take him away from us." mom says as the officer grabs me and handcuffs me, pulling me from the room.

"No..mom! Dad! Please! Please!" I scream at the top of my lungs but nothing. I'm pulled down the hallway to the cells, filled with big, red eyes men and woman. They all yell and bang the bars when they see me, throwing some things as well. I'm dragged to some cell and thrown in. He slams the door shut and locking it. "Let me out!"

"Shut up!" he says before walking away.

"Mom! Dad! Please...please get me out! Help me!" I yell but nothing. I fall back, crawling against the wall. "Please..." I let the tears fall down my cheeks.

"Oh Rye." I look up and see Emily. "I knew you were no good."

"What? No..Emily please..tell me whats wrong with everybody." I say.

"You messed up. You pushed everybody." she says. "That little girl? She's dead." 

"What? No...no thats a lie." I say. "Please...tell me its a lie."

"I wouldn't even if it was. You fucked up Rye. You made the mistake. Your the reason everything has gone to shit." she says. "So pay the price."

"I..no please." I say but she turns and leaves the cell. "Emily! Please...stop...Emily!" 

"Rye!" somebody yells. "Rye!"

~End~

"Hey! Rye!" I open my eyes to see mom. "Your okay."

"What?" I ask sitting up.

"You were having a nightmare." she says. "Your okay." I notice I'm sweaty and shaking.

"I...I was?" I ask. She nods and pulls me in for a hug.

"Your okay." she says. I nod.

"I'm gonna...try to...sleep." I say. She nods and stands up. 

"You sure? You need something?" she asks.

"No..just sleep." I say. She nods and kisses my forehead before leaving. I lay back and close my eyes..wondering if it really is just a dream.

~The Next Morning at School~

"Emily!" I say running towards her and giving her a tight hug.

"Geez..whats wrong?" she asks.

"DId..what about the little girl?!" I ask.

"What little girl?" she asks.

"It..never happened?" I ask.

"What never happened?" she asks. I smile and shake my head.

"Nothing...but can I say something?" I ask looking into her eyes. "And do something?"

"Umm...sure." she says so I pull her forward, pressing my lips to hers. After a while I pull back. 

"I love you." I say taking her by surprise. After that nightmare...I was afraid so I had too.

"I..uhh..." she stutters.

"I just wanted you to know, now lets get to class." I say pulling her to the classroom. This is gonna be a fun day.
