Chapter 17 Amazingly Horrible News

Peeta POV

So a week's past since we went to the lake. Katniss and I have been doing really well and now its the time for Rye's routine check at the doctors which happens to be the same doctor Katniss and I go to. I'm in the living room, pulling my jacket on as Katniss walks in but with a strange face.

"Whats wrong?" I ask.

"I don't know. I'm sick." she says.

"Well, we're going to the doctor. Maybe you got a flu." I say. She nods and grabs her jacket as Rye comes down.

"Dad, will I have to get a shot?" he asks.

"I don't think so." I say. "But we'll see." he nod and we head out the door. I drive us to the docter's but Katniss stays in the car. "Hey, whats wrong?" I ask.

"I really don't feel good." she says.

"What wrong? Head?" I ask. 

"No, my stomach. Like really bad." she says.

"Maybe Dr. Ashburn should look at you." I say.

"Peeta its really nothing." she says but I shake my head. 

"Come on now. Out of the car and lets go in." I say. She sighs and nods so I help her out of the car and we head in.

"Katniss and Peeta, its really good to see you again." Dr. Ashburn says. "Come right in. Nobody's really here today." we follow her to her office. 

"Rye first." I say sitting down with Katniss.

"Alright Rye, lets see if your all healthy." she says. He gets a basic check-up with a lollipop at the end. "What else can I do?"

"Katniss isn't feeling so well. Heavy stomach pains and whatnot." I say.

"Okay, lay down and I'll feel your stomach." she says. Katniss walks over to the table and lays dawn as Ashburn starts to feel her stomach but not long after she stops.

"Is something wrong?" I ask.

"Rye, why don't you go out to the waiting room and play?" she says. He nods and runs out of the room. "May I ask when way the last time you two had sex?"

"Last weekend." I say.

"Alright and if I know you two than it was without protection." she says.

"No...not really." I say looking down.

"Well then. Katniss I want you to do this test." she says handing her one.

"Okay." Kat says standing up and heading for the bathroom.

"What is it?" I ask.

"I think she could be pregnant. The only reason she has pain is because of the operation for the miscarriage." she says. I nod as Katniss walks back in. She hands Ashburn the test and sits back down next to me.

"Alright..so whats this pain your feeling?" Ashburn asks.

"Like, pulling, knots, cramps. Stuff like that." she says.

"Okay and how long?" she asks.

"About..2 days I think." Kat says.

"Alright well I'm gonna do a blood test that send you home with some strong pain medication. I have an idea what it could be but I wanna be sure." she says.

"Okay." I say standing up with Katniss. "We'll call if she gets worse."

"Alright, I'll be here." she says shaking both our hands. 

"Come on Kitty, lets go home and get some rest." I say. She nods and we leave the office, getting Rye and heading home. The second we're there I make Katniss take the pain killers and go to bed while I stay up with Rye.

"Whats wrong with mom?" he asks as we sit in the couch.

"She's just a little sick. Thats all. Nothing really bad you have to worry about." I say.

"Really? I thought she was really sick. Thats why Dr. Ashburn sent me out." he says.

"No, she just has some stomach problems but she'll be okay." I say. He nods and we just watch TV until its bedtime. I put him to bed before going myself. I switch to my sleeping clothes and crawl into bed next to a sleeping Katniss.

"Peeta? What did she tell you?" she asks making me jump.

"I thought you were asleep." I say.

"Sorry but I know she told you something. What did she say?" she asks.

"She thinks you may be pregnant but thats a small chance." I say lying.

"What? Why?" I ask.

"I don't know. Thats all she said before you came back in." I say. She nods and tuns, resting her head on my chest. "But your gonna be okay Kitty, I promise."

"I know but...I still worry." she says.

"I know Kat but you'll be okay. Lets sleep now and see what Ashburn says." I say running my hand softly through her hair. She smiles and closes her eyes, me following and soon I'm in a deep sleep.

~The Next Morning~

I open my eyes at the sound of laughter. I sit up to find Katniss gone but the windows open. I yawn and climb out of bed, leaving my room and looking into Rye's on the way to the stairs but he's gone and the laughter from downstairs gets louder. I head down the stairs to find Katniss, Annie, Finnick. Rye and Finnick Jr. in the living room.

"Good morning cupcake." Finnick says.

"Hey, what time is it?" I ask rubbing my eyes.

"8:30. Katniss called us over." Annie says. I sit down and kiss Katniss's cheek.

"Did Ashburn call?" I ask.

"No, not yet but soon I think." she says.

"How you feeling?" I ask.

"I'm really good, better than the last few days." she says smiling.

"Thats good, I'm glad." I say just as the phone rings. I groan and stand up, heading for the kitchen and picking up. "Peeta Mellark."

"Good morning Peeta. This is Dr. Ashburn, I'm calling about Katniss's tests." she says.

"Oh, yeah and?" I ask sitting down.

"Well..its as I feared. Katniss is pregnant again." she says. I lose my breath and almost drop the phone. "Peeta?"

"Wha...what? Yes, I'm here." I say running my hands through my hair.

"I know this is a shock but come in with Katniss and I'll take a look." she says. 

"Umm..yeah..alright." I say.

"Everything's alright Peeta. I promise. Just bring her in and we'll talk, okay?" she says.

"Yes...okay." I say.

"Alright, see you later today." she says.

"Yeah..." I say before hanging the phone up. Katniss is pregnant again but the hardest part is...how do I tell my wife she's pregnant?
