Chapter 32 Missing Daddy

Katniss POV

I open the door to see Bryant and Jace sitting on the couch. The look up and smile at me.

"Mom? Is dad coming?" Jace asks. I sigh and shake my head, sitting down.

"No daddy's not coming home." I say. "Not for a while."

"Why not?" Bryant asks.

"Its between mom and dad. It'll be okay." I say. He nods and they get back to watching TV. It hurts to tell my kids everything's gonna be okay when I don't even know if thats true. I lean back and close my eyes as the door opens and Finnick walks in. I'm staying at his house for now even though its very close to our's. 

"Hey, you okay?" he asks sitting down next to me.

"Not really. I gotta lie to my kids to make them feel better. I don't want then suffering because of this." I say.

"I know Kat...have you seen Peeta?" he asks.

"Yes, at Haymitch's." I say looking down.

"And?" he says.

"He was begging me to forgive him but I said we'll start with going to therapy." I say. He nods and looks to the kids.

"Hey, how about you go upstairs in the play room and play." he says. They smile and nod, running up the steps leaving us alone. "Look, I think its a good idea because I know Peeta never meant it."

"Yes Finnick I know but as soon as things go bad be breaks his promise." I say. "I'm getting sick of it."

"I know Kat." he says. "We'll see what time brings."

"Yes, I know." I say standing up. "I'm gonna go out for a walk."

"Alright, be careful." he says. I nod and open the door, walking out. I make my way down the street, everything is very quiet. The only thing I hear is the sound of my own footsteps. The sound of light wind fills my ears as I turn around the corner, making my way to the cafe. I open the door and walk in. A waiter greets me as I walk past and sit down I order a coffee and just sit there, going through all my thoughts. Should I go back to Peeta? How can I forgive him?  I finish my coffee before paying and standing up, walking to the front door but crashing into somebody. I fall back, hitting the ground hard but as I look up I see a man, kneeling down.

"I'm so sorry. Are you okay?" he says holding out his hand. I reach up and take it only to look into familiar eyes.

"Cato?" I say. He looks at me for a second before smiling.

"Katniss? What are you doing here?" he asks helping me up and giving me a hug.

"I live not far from here. You?" I ask.

"I'm moving here with my sister." he says. I nod. "How's your life so far?"

"Really good. I've got 3 sons and a daughter." I say pulling me wallet out and showing him a family picture. He looks at it and smiles.

"Is he your husband?" he asks pointing to Peeta.

"Yes, thats him." I say. "But how about you? Whats going on in your life?"

"Oh..nothing really special. I haven't been in a long term relationship for a while now." he says as we start to walk.

"Oh, that sucks." I say.

"Nah, its okay. I'm rather alone cause I'm free to do anything." he says as we get closer to the park.

"Yeah, I can understand that." I say as we sit down on a bench. 

"I really can't believe I'm seeing you again after all these years." he says making me smile.

"I'm sorry I hurt you so long ago." I say looking down.

"Hey, Katniss, its okay. I get it. You loved the boy who is now your husband and which with you have 4 kids with. Its fine." he says resting his hand on my shoulder. "I'm glad your happy."

"Thanks Cato, say...you wanna hang out more often?" I ask. He smiles even more and nods.

"Of course. You need anything you can come to me." he says. I nod just as my phone rings. I look at it to see its Peeta. I just about push decline but I answer it.

"What Peeta?" I ask annoyed.

"Katniss! Get to the hospital right now! Its about Rye!" he says. 

"What?! I say but he hung up. "Cato...can you drive me to the hospital?" 

"Sure. Come on." he says getting up. We rush to his car but the only thing in my mind at that moment is my son and whats wrong with him.
