Chapter 29 The Decision

Peeta POV

"Peeta, wake up." I open my eyes to see Katniss smiling. "We made breakfast."

"You what?!" I jump up.

"Well, the kids helped me." she says making me relax.

"Good, I'm glad." I say pulling her over for a kiss. "How you sleep?"

"I slept really good." she says. "But come on, lets have some breakfast."

"You didn't burn anything did you?" I ask getting up.

"No. Well....just a few eggs." she says looking down. I chuckle and stroke her cheek.

"Its alright Kitty." I say getting up. "Lets go eat." she nods and we walk out of the room and downstairs to the kitchen. The sweet scent of pancakes and syrup fills my nose. "Wow..that smells great."

"Really? I was worried. The kids helped me but I tried to make it alone." she says as we walk in to see a decked table with full plates. Jas, Jace and Bryant are already sitting there.

"Morning dad!" they all says together making me smile. We sit down and I take a bite, hoping I don't die but they're very sweet.

"Wow..these are really good." I say making Katniss smile.

"Mommy made them. We helped her but she did most of the work." Jas says.

"Kat they're amazing." I say. "You did a really good job."

"Thanks. I was really worried." she says starting to eat herself. We all finish breakfast before I head down to the basement to paint. I sit down and relax, trying to work on the painting of Katniss and I with our kids. A family painting. I start as the door opens and Jasbay walks down.

"Hi daddy." she says sitting down next to me.

"Hey little Jas, whats up?" I ask.

"How did you and mommy meet?" she asks.

"Oh..umm...in school." I say. "We were friends then we were enemies then friends again and we fell in love. But I loved your mother for a long time before that. Just never said anything."

"Why not?" she asks.

"I was scared. She was in love with another boy and I didn't wanna ruin that." I say. "But...then she came back to me and fell in love with me again." I say making her smile.

"Was it hard?" she asks.

"Yes. It way the hardest time of my life. I didn't have many friends." I say. "But I have your mother and now I have you and your brothers." I pick her up and set her on my lap.

"What would've happened if mom never came back to you?" she asks.

"I don't really wanna think about that little one, okay?" I say hugging her tightly. Soon after Katniss walks in.

"Peeta, come here please." she says. I set Jas down and walk over to her. 

"Whats up?" I ask.

"Its the hospital. They want us to come there." she says.

"Why?" I ask.

"They didn't say." she says. 

"I'll call Finnick if he can watch the kids." I say taking the phone and dialing his number. He agrees so we wait until he gets here before leaving and heading to the hospital. We make it there and walk in to see the doctor who's treating Rye.

"Mr. and Mrs. Mellark. Please come." he says turning. We follow him to to the 5th floor and to his office. We walk in and sit down. "Now, I have to talk to you to about something very serious." 

"And that is?" I ask worried.

"Is something wrong with Rye?!" Katniss asks.

"No, he's fine but its about him." he says looking down to his papers. "Your...insurance has decided to stop funding the machines keeping Rye alive at the moment." I gasp and look to Katniss.

"What do you mean?!" I say.

" It means we're gonna have to pull the plug." he says.

"No! There has to be another way!" Katniss says.

"Well...if you were to pay the monthly fee for the machines then everything would be okay." he says.

"What would it cost?" I ask. He sighs and looks down.

"6000$ per month." he says. I almost lose all my breath as I look to a shocked Katniss.

"We...we can't pay that." I say to myself looking down.

"You've got a week to make your decision." he says standing up. We do as well and leave the room. What are we gonna do? We can never pay that amount but I can't let my son die...

OMG!!!! Whats gonna happen?!?!??! CAN THEY SAVE RYE?!?!?!??!?! So I hope everybody had a really good Christmas and a Happy New Year. All luck for the upcoming year to all.
