Chapter 44 Its All In Your Head

Katniss POV

I open my eyes at the sound of the alarm. I sit up, rubbing my eyes clear of the sleepiness so I climb out of bed and walk to the bathroom. I wash my face and look up to see my messy bed hair and red eyes. I look like shit but ya know..that's what you get after a night of sex. I smile at the thought and head downstairs to see Peeta sitting on the couch, reading the newspaper

"Good morning." he says as I sit down next to him.

"Morning." I mutter resting my head on his shoulder. He chuckles and strokes my cheek.

"Was last night to much for you my dear?" he asks with a hint of amusement in his voice. I frown and look up to him.

"God only knows I have more stamina and will for sex then you." I say. He gives me a look of slightly offend.

"That...that really hurt." he says giving me a sad face making me smile.

"I was joking baby." I say. "I loved last night. I was amazing."

"I bet it was." he says. "So..what shall we do today?" I shrug.

"Oh....well..I don't know." I say.

"Why don't we go out? Have a nice day for ourselves." he says. 

"Sure...why not? I mean...we're not getting younger." I say. He nods.

"We can take the kids with." he says. I smile and nod.

"Yes. Why don't we go to the zoo?" I say. He nods.

"Thats a great idea." he says giving me a short kiss.

"Where's Emily and Rye?" I ask.

"They left a note saying they were going out this morning." he says. I nod and we sit there in our peaceful silence for a few minutes before I stand up.

"I'm gonna wash up. You tell the kids to get ready." I say.

"Wait...can't I join you?" he asks. I laugh and shake my head.

"You've had enough for now cupcake. Maybe tomorrow." I say. He frowns and nods so I head up to our bedroom, closing the door behind me in the bathroom. I turn the hot water on and strip from my clothes before stepping under the hot water. I run my hands through my hair and let the water run over and down my face. Just this lets me forget everything and just relax. I wash up and get out, drying off and walking to the bedroom to see Peeta sitting on the bed getting dressed. He looks surprised but more then happy to see me. "Oh..damn...how wonderful." he smiles. I roll my eyes.

"You were waiting in here just to see me naked?" I ask. He shrugs.

"Maybe, who knows?" he says smirking. I shake my head and walk to the closet. "Kitty...come on. Just..a quicky."

"A quicky? We're doing....quickies now?" I ask. 

"Why not?" he asks shrugging.

"Peeta...not every day alright?" I says. "I love you and I would like that alot right now but we can't." he nods.

"Its alright Kitty." he says standing up and kissing my cheek. "Get dressed okay?" he smacks my ass before leaving the room. I smile and get some fresh clothes on before heading down to see Peeta and the kids ready.

"I soooooo happy we're going to the zoo!" Jas says making me smile.

"I know dear, I thought you would like it." I say getting my shoes on.

"What about Rye?" Jace asks. 

"He might join us later." I say. He nods and we leave the house, getting in the car and starting our drive to the zoo. A bit down the street we see some cops around some piece of the sidewalk. We stop to see what there doing.

"Hey! Peeta!" some cop says walking over to us.

"Whats happening Winston." Peeta says.

"Who is that?" I whisper.

"One of the cops I see doughnuts to." he says as he gets to our car.

"What happened?" I ask.

"Well there was a good amount of blood found here so we're taking samples to see if its human." he says.

"My god..and if it is?" I ask.

"Well we're gonna look into it but I bet its just from some animal." he says. I nod and we say our goodbyes before continuing to the zoo

~An Hour Later~

Finally we make it. I open the door and step out of the car into the warm, summer air. The kids run out and blabber about what animals they can't wait to see. I smile and we get tickets before heading inside.

"I'm gonna call Rye's cell. He hasn't texted me or called or anything." I say. Peeta nods and I dial his number but nothing. I leave him a few text and get back to them.

And?" he asks.

"Nothing." I say looking down.

"Don't worry Kitty." he says kissing my cheek." 

"I know....but I feel something bad happened." I say looking up to him.

"Its just in your head baby. We'll come home and he'll be there." he says. I nod and we walk through the long, big zoo. Soon we're half way through when we decided to take a break. We sit on a bench while the kids play at a little playground set with others.

"You still worrying?" he asks. I sigh and nod. "Katniss...its really okay."

"I know...but I still worry. What if something happened to them?" I ask. He sighs and wraps his arm around me.

"Look...we'll finish up here fast and head home okay? If he's not there we'll call around but I'm sure he's okay." he says. I nod and after our break we keep walking but the only thing in my head is the fact that I don't know where my son is and its driving me crazy.

~Later at the Mellark House~

We get out of the car and walk inside just as the phone rings.

"I'll get it." I say picking it up.

"Mrs. Mellark?" a male voice says.

"Yes this is she." I say.

"We found blood on the sidewalk this afternoon. We did tests and have confirmed that it belongs to your son Rye Mellark." he says and I almost dropped the phone. Rye?!?!
