Chapter 1 Mommy and Daddy Mellark

Peeta POV

I open my eyes, the feeling of cool breeze against my back makes me turn to see the open window. And my beautiful wife Katniss. Ever since we got married everything's been that much better. The mornings I wake up next to her, knowing that she's mine, my wife, my love and my heart. She's my everything and without her...I'd be nothing. I stroke her cheek lightly, planting a soft kiss on her cheek before climbing out of bed and leaving the room. I walk down the dim light hallway to Rye's room, opening the door quietly and walking in to see him still asleep. I walk over to his bed and sit down.

"Rye? Come on bud. You got school." I say. He groans but just turns to face the wall. "Rye..get up."

"I'm sick." he mumbles. I feel his head, nothing.

"Yeah, come on." I say picking him up.

"Dad! Put me down!" he says. 

"Nah...we're gonna help me make breakfast for mom." I say walking down the hallway.

"Fine! But I'm still sick." he says.

"Sure you are." I say. I walk to the kitchen and set him down. He runs to the sick and washes his hands before turning to me. "What should we make?"

"Umm....waffles? We haven't made them in a while." he says. For his 5 years, Rye is pretty mature. I'm not really sure why but he talks like an adult. Even though sometimes its not the best thing for him.

"Alright, chocolate chip waffles?" I ask. He smiles and nods. "But only if you go to school."

"Dad...your not being fair." he says frowning.

"Too bad. School sucks." I say getting the stuff for waffles out. We mix everything together and I start to cook them when familiar arms wrap around my chest.

"Good morning cupcake." her perfect voice fills my ears.

"Morning Kitty." I say turning around. "You sleep well?" she smiles and pulls me down for a kiss.

"After last night? Yes." she whispers. We don't normally have sex when Rye's here but last night was....kind of an accident we couldn't control and considering the fact that Rye didn't ask me about it I'm guessing he slept through it.

"Anytime love." I say. She smiles and walks over to Rye.

"Good morning my little cook." she says picking him up and kissing his cheek.

"Mommy..can you drive me to school?" he asks.

"Why? I thought you love taking the bus." she says setting him down.

"There's this new kid who calls me names and throws stuff at me." he says.

"What?! Why didn't tell us?" I ask walking over to him.

"I didn't want you to worry." he says.

"Look, I'll take you to school and talk to your teacher about it." Katniss says.

"Alright." he says looking down.

"And next time your having trouble at school you tell us." I say.

"Yes daddy." he says. I nod and head back to the stove and finishing the waffles. I get the plates and bring the waffles to the table, sitting down next to Katniss.

"My mom is coming over today." I say.

"Really? Grandma's coming?" Rye asks excited.

"Yes, she's gonna stay for the weekend." I say.

"That sounds good." Katniss says. "And....these are amazing." she says with a full mouth.

"Katniss Mellark. Table manners." I say making Rye laugh. She swallows and gives me a look. 

"You want a beating?" she asks.

"Mom..no hitting!" Rye says.

"But daddy's being mean!" she says like a little child.

"Than handle it with words like you tell me to do." he says.

"Oh..this is priceless." I say taking a drink of my milk.

"Alright, come on. School time." Katniss says finishing her waffles and taking him to his room. I clean up and head to the living room to see a ready Rye and Katniss.

"Gotta go daddy. I'll see you after school." he says. I pick him up and give him a cheek kiss. 

"Have fun and I'll pick you up." I say. He nods and I set him down as Katniss walks over to me.

"Be back soon." she says giving me a kiss.

"I'll be waiting." I say. She smiles and leaves. I sigh and look around. There is really nothing to do besides watch TV, clean or cook. I feel like a housewife. I mean Katniss cleans alot and watches TV but I'm afraid to let her cook. I just wanna live abit longer. I fall onto the couch and turn the TV on. But...well I need a shower but I'll wait till Katniss gets home but what if she doesn't want a shower. Ahh...its complicated. Whatever. I get up and walk to the bathroom, turning the water on and pulling my clothes off before stepping in. After a short shower I get out and dry off, tying the towel around my waist and leaving the bathroom, walking upstairs to my room. As I look through the closet for clothes something pulls the towel from me. I turn and see Katniss.

"How dare you take a shower without me?" she says.

"I didn't know if you wanted one or not." I say scratching my neck.

"Your a very bad boy daddy." she says making me smile.

"Alright than mommy. Punish me." I say. She smirks evily and takes my hand, pulling me to the bathroom. Yeah...this is my life now and it couldn't get better.
