Sage.

September 15, 2018.

It's been two days since I've seen Billie and I already miss her. I'm falling way too fast, but I'm a lesbian so what can I say? It's almost 11 pm and I've been sitting at my keyboard for hours trying to write a new song. Charles wants me to write something that doesn't have to do with social anxiety so naturally, the next thing that came to my mind was Billie. Attempting to find a chord progression or melody as perfect as Billie's features is impossible.

There was a knock on my door which caused me to furrow my brows. Who the fuck is knocking on my door at 11? I don't know anyone in this city.

I anxiously walked to the door and at this moment I wish I had a peep whole. With a shaky hand, I twisted the doorknob and slowly opened the door just a crack. Blue eyes met mine and my heart fluttered for a moment as I opened the door wider.

"Hey, what's up?"

"You wanna go on a drive?" She smiled.

"Yeah, let me grab my phone," a smile displayed on my face as I turned around and grabbed my phone from my bed before grabbing my keys.

Billie took a step back as I closed and locked my door. In my head, I was curious as to why she didn't text me first but my heart skipped a beat at the fact that she just showed up here. It means she was thinking about me.

As we walked through the carpeted halls of my apartment building, there was silence between us. Suddenly I felt the back of Billie's hand brush the back of mine before she linked our hands together. A shy smile pulled at my lips as the blood rushed to my head. I looked down at the floor to avoid eye contact and the obvious blush on my face.

"Where are we going?" I asked as we both buckled up in our seats.

"To be honest, I'm not sure," she chuckled, pulling out of the parking garage.

I nodded my head, watching a few buildings go by as soft music played through the speakers. I was comfortable; some people might find this scenario awkward, and normally I'd be fidgeting and trying to control shaky hands, but I'm not. I feel safe and comfortable, even though Billie drives a little outta control, I trust her. I still hardly know anything about her but when I'm in her presence it feels like the area is filled with fog; fog that no one else could enter. It doesn't make any sense.

"So, Sage," Billie spoke up softly. I turned my head towards her to see a smile on her lips. "You want to get some fries?"

"Always," I chuckled lightly as she pulled into a drive-through, ordering two large fries. "What do you say we go to a park to eat these?"

A shiver of nerves flooded through me as I heard her last sentence. I've never been out in public with Billie, and she is sure to be recognized. Although, it is past 11 pm, so it should be too crowded. "Sure," I mumbled; both of us falling back into a comfortable silence as she drove a few blocks to the nearest park.

She parked the car, opening up my door before jogging to her trunk and grabbing a blanket. "I didn't peg Billie Eilish to be the type of person to keep a blanket in her trunk," I giggled.

"Well, I do and that's because you don't know much about me yet," she shrugged, leading me to the grass. It was pretty dark, the only light source being the headlights of Billie's car. She placed the blanket on the ground and we sat across from each other, both grabbing our fried.

"Does it annoy you when people in your personal life call you Billie Eilish?" I asked, glancing around to see no other soul around.

"Not really, I mean if it was my family or something then yeah. I think people use it a lot when they're just getting to know me but it's usually a joke. It's not my last name but it's sorta like if I were to call you Sage...." she looked at me with furrowed brows for a second, "What's your last name? Oh my God, do you have a middle name?"

I nodded my head with a smile, "Sage May Carson."

"What the hell? That's so cute! Why couldn't I have a regular-ass cute name?" She groaned with an overly exaggerated frown.

"What's wrong with Billie Eilish O'Connell?"

She started laughing before laying flat on her back and looking at the sky. Although I doubt it's actually the sky she's even seeing... just a bunch of pollution, no star in sight. "My full name is Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O'Connell," she chuckled.

"Billie Eilish- What?"

She glanced up at me, her eyes shining in the headlights, "Pirate," she smirked.

"Dead ass?"

"Well I don't think Pirate is actually on my birth certificate but yeah," she shrugged.

"Damn," I clicked my tongue, moving to lay down on my back next to her.

"I don't know, I guess I'm learning to like my full name but it's still odd as fuck," her voice was soft in the slight breeze.

"What would you name your kids?" She asked. I could see her turn her head towards me in my peripheral vision but I didn't dare move.

"Um, I don't know... I haven't really thought that far," I admitted.

"Hmm, that's probably a good idea."

We were quiet for a second as I heard a few voices, immediately without thought I clutched Billie's arm with my hands, placing my face on the outside of her shoulder to hide my face. "Hey," she chuckled softly, "they are just walking past," she whispered.

"I-i'm so," I stuttered, pulling myself away from her.

"No," she shook her head, "come back."

"Oh-okay," I blushed as she lifted an arm so I could rest my head on her arm, my face on her chest.

"Hey, I forgot to tell you but I was talking to my mom about you the other day and-"

"You were talking about me?" I questioned, more nervous than teasingly.

"Yeah, about how I saw you at Interscope and stuff. Anyway, she said one of her friends moved away and they kept in touch, said she had a daughter also named Sage. It's probably not your-"

"It is," I interrupted.

"What?"

"Your mom and my mom, they used to be best friends before my mom got pregnant with my sister and my parents moved away," I explained.

"What the fuck?" She lifted her head slightly, her face facing mine. "And you didn't think to tell me?"

"I forgot," I shrugged with a laugh.

"Babe, that's crazy!"

I suppressed the feeling in my heart at the pet name as I continued, "You wanna know something disgusting but also kinda funny?"

"Always."

"Our moms had a threesome together," I whispered.

She erupted in laughter, causing me to begin laughing until I heard my name being called from behind us.

"SAGE?!"
