Chapter Thirty-Four
PrioritizeI was leaning on the wall by the elevator with a huge smile on my face when my eyes landed on Kade who's walking in the lobby. I pushed myself off the wall and walked to meet him halfway.
I've been dying to share the good news to someone since the other day but I had no friends to share it with. I should have called Kade, since he's the only one that I could classify as my friend, but I wanted to tell him everything in person. Hindi naman kami nagkita kahapon dahil wala kaming pasok at hindi rin kami nag gym, since I still wasn't fully recovered yesterday.
"Kade!" my voice came out too chirpy and it sounded weird coming from someone like me. I don't think I had ever been this cheerful for years. I even threw my arms around Kade and hugged him, just because I'm really in a good mood.
"He was there!" I brightly chimed.
"Who?" Kade sounded puzzled. I cut the hug and pushed him away from me. He looked as puzzled as he sounded.
"Rush, he was there that day. He came!"
His forehead creased. "But you said he stood you up?"
"He did." I said with my unwavering enthusiasm. "But he still came."
"And you're happy? Paano mo naman nalaman?"
"Of course, I'm happy! And we talked the other day. He said he saw Grant with me. He didn't show himself because he got jealous."
Disbelief painted across Kade's face. "He told you he was jealous?"
"No, but I know he was. It's common sense, Kade." I gave him a duh look for throwing me an immensely stupid question. Kade chuckled heartily. I assumed that his chuckle means he's happy for me.
"And you know what else?" I was being smug. I had every right to be smug. His laugh faded but the wide grin never left his face.
"What?"
"We're going on a date today."
Kade looked slightly taken a back. He obviously didn't see that one coming. "He asked you out on a date?"
I grinned. "Nope."
He gaped at me, waiting for me to eleaborate but I didn't give him anything. He decided to ask again.
"Does he even know that he's going on a date with you?"
"Nope!" I wickedly beamed at Kade.
He bit his lip, trying to stop himself from laughing but outrageously failed because he still ended up laughing out loud. He looked really amused. He was laughing at me. Now, I'm starting to get offended. My smile disappeared from my face.
"Can you stop laughing?" I sent him a sharp glare.
He held his stomach. "Oh, I'm sorry. It's just... You're gold, Maxwell. A hundred million dollars worth of gold."
"I know." I rolled my eyes and completed the pompous reaction by flipping my hair over my shoulder. Kade stopped from snorting like a pig but a genuine smile remained on his face.
"I'm happy that you're back to your old self, Maxwell." my conceitedness lifted as I burned under Kade's scrutiny. "I didn't see it before but I get it now. He makes who you are and you're only you whenever he's around."
I never really saw it that way. I always thought Rush was the one who brings out the worse in me. He always teases me, annoy the hell out of me, and push my buttons. He challenges me in every possible mean way that I couldn't help but take him on. He makes me feel like it's okay to be as evil as I can be because we both know that he can do much worse.
