Chapter Eight
Care

After that quick encounter with Rush, I made sure that it won't happen again. I just can't risk seeing him again like that. It's too painful. Everything feels too fresh whenever he's around. His mere existence is like a huge slap in the face that I haven't moved on. Did I even try? I can't seem to remember anymore.

I stayed off the grid for the last two days. Nasa bahay lang ako, kung hindi nagswi-swimming, I'm probably inside my room watching any movie or reading a book just to kill time. Hindi ko rin nakita si Grant for two days. He didn't forget to call me or send me messages.

Classes are drawing close real soon. I'm excited to get this year over with. After my first semester, I would be done with school and spend the rest of my academic year finish my hours for our required on the job training. I'm looking forward to doing some field work.

He's waiting for me downstairs. I forgot to set the alarm last night, that's why I'm running late. If Kade didn't call me on his way here, he might have witnessed me still sleeping in bed.

He just called me one day, asking for my whereabouts and I told him that I was in the gym. And since he's always been willing in giving information, we both found out that we're both on the same gym.

"Maybe we should re-schedule ang go together, para gym buddies tayo."

I grimaced. "Why would I want you as my gym buddy?"

"Because you like having me around." His smug response made me snort.

"Says who?"

Kade freely grinned at me. "Admit it, Maxie. You love my company."

"Please, Kade."

"Bakit? Ayaw mo ba magsawa sa akin?" I gagged. Loudly.

"Don't flirt with me, Kade."

"I'm not flirting with you. Kaibigan kita, and I don't flirt with my friends." The f word rang in my mind. I sighed at the warmth that I felt in my heart at the mention of it. I've never had a friend.

"Fine. But I won't change my schedule for you. You wanted it, then adjust."

I heard a triumphant yes over the line. Kade is really a funny guy. He reminds me of someone. Maybe that's the reason why I'm okay with spending time with him. Because Kade's a semi-replica of he who must not be named. Only less evil, arrogant, and other negative qualities that he has.
