AJ's mistake

I am the daughter of AJ Cook, you loved mom but it annoyed me when she was always busy with work and never seemed to have time for me. She would always get home late and leave early in the morning. I hardly got to see her.

The school day was done so I decided to go to the set and surprise mom and spend some quality time together. I smiled when I walked on set, everyone there knew me and smiled in greeting.

I walked around and spotted mom, I ran over to her and tapped her on the shoulder. She turned round, she looked really stressed. "Hey mom." AJ nodded. "Oh hey Y/n, I didn't know you was coming here today, look I can't talk I have things I need to do, I'll see you at home."

Before I could reply mom walked away. I sighed. I felt someone tap my shoulder and turned to see Paget smiling at me. "Hey Y/n, you okay?" I nodded. "Yeah...I just thought me and mom could hang out...but she's too busy...she's always too busy..."

Paget pulled me into a hug. "You can hang out with me if you want, I'm not busy." I smiled. "Thanks Paget, I'd love to hang out with you." I smiled and linked arms with Paget and skipped off with her to play pranks on the other cast members, get food and gossip.

Paget became like a second mom to me. Most days after school I went to the Criminal Minds set and tried to hang out with mom...but surprise, surprise she was always too busy.

After a while when I went to the set I didn't even bother going and asking mom to hang out I just went to find Paget.

I was hanging with Paget laughing and eating pizza. I saw mom walking towards me and she stood next to Paget. "Hey honey, I didn't know you was coming today." I nodded. "Yeah just came to see Paget." AJ frowned. "Oh...that's nice...Well I'm not busy if you want to hang out?" I shook my head. "Sorry mom I'm busy I have plans with Paget."

Not waiting for mom's reply, I grabbed Paget by the arm and pulled her away.

AJ's POV.

Well I didn't expect that...I thought Y/n would want to hang out with me, normally when she comes to set she always comes to find me...But then again she hasn't done that in weeks. I shrugged, I'm probably thinking too much into it.

The next day I saw Y/n walk on set, I smiled as I saw her look around, she was probably going to ask me to hang out. I saw her smile and run to Paget, who had her arms waiting to hug her. Since when did my daughter not want to spend time with me...

That's when it hit me...I was always more occupied with my work then I was my own daughter...God I was such an idiot...How could I be so stupid...

I sighed and walked over to Y/n. "Hey baby..." Y/n turned to me and smiled. "Hi mom." I tilted my head. "Can we talk?" Y/n sighed. "Mom, I'm busy." I frowned. "Okay, I'll rephrase that. I need to talk to you NOW!"

Y/n scoffed. "What crawled up your ass!" Oh she did not just say that to me. "Don't talk to me like that young lady!" Paget put her hand on Y/n's shoulder. "Y/n sweetie, why don't you calm down and just speak to your mom, we can hang out another time." Y/n huffed but nodded. "Fine..."

Paget smiled at me. "You can use my trailer if you want, I'll be filming for a while anyway." I nodded and pulled her into a hug. "Thank you Paget." Paget laughed as she pulled away from the hug. "No need to thank me, that's what best friends are for." She winked and I looked over to Y/n who was tapping her foot.

I walked over to her and stood in front of her. "We can talk in Paget's trailer." Y/n nodded and stormed off in that direction. I sighed and followed.

When I got to the trailer I noticed Y/n was already inside. I sighed and closed the door behind me. I sat down next to her but she shuffled away from me.

"Y/n I'm sorry..." Y/n glared at me. "Sorry for what exactly?" I tried to reach out for her but she pulled away from me. "I'm sorry for not making time for you."

Y/n laughed and got to her feet. "Oh my god! You're jealous! You're jealous of all the time I spent with Paget and not you."

I stood up and stood in front of her. "Okay fine! Maybe I am jealous! You're my daughter not hers!"

Y/n rolled her eyes. "Well at least Paget spends time with me! She's the main character on the show and she still makes time!"

"I'm a main character too!"

Y/n rolled her eyes at me. "Yes I know! You're Agent Jennifer Jareau, badass BAU Agent! And basically in every single scene! Yet you make time for everyone but me! Paget makes time for me! Something my own mother can't do! WHY CAN'T YOU JUST BE MY MOM!"

Your POV

I didn't know where the outburst had come from, I quickly sat down on the couch and started to cry. AJ sat next to me and gathered me in her arms. "Oh baby, don't cry..." I wrapped my arms around her and buried my face in her neck.

AJ stroked my hair comfortingly. When I finally calmed down I pulled away and she wiped the tears from my eyes. "Sweetheart I am so sorry...I should have made time for you...You're the most important thing in my life...I'm a mom first...You come first...I'm so sorry that I made you feel that you wasn't important to me..."

I sniffled. "It's okay mom." AJ shook her head at me. "No baby girl, it's not, but I promise I'm going to make it up to you. How about after school tomorrow I pick you up and take you shopping, we can look for clothes, get our nails done and then go out for a meal."

I smiled. "Really?" AJ smiled back. "Really, I want to spend time with my favourite girl." I smiled and hugged her.

"I love you mom."

AJ smiled. "I love you too baby, so, so much!"
