I know you asked for headcanons but this was easier for me to write as a small drabble, hope you don't mind!

Walking back to the village was your least favorite part of missions. Even though you were in good company, the long mission took a lot out of you. You knew what you were getting into when you agreed to go on the mission with Kakashi, but all you could look forward too was a shower and your warm bed waiting for you at home.
Kakashi slowed, waiting for you to catch up with him. He looked over you, checking to see if any wounds had gotten worse. Relieved it was nothing serious, he offered to find an inn to stay in for another night.
"No, it's okay. I'll be fine."
"You don't have to force yourself, we can stop and rest."
"Don't you want to get home?"
He nodded, "Of course, but I'm not going to let you put yourself at risk. We can rest up for a couple hours then make it back tonight."
"Okay, yeah, that sounds like a good plan."
He led you through the trees, eventually finding a small area for the both of you to relax. He spread out a small blanket, sitting besides you as he pulled out his book.
"Do you go anywhere without that?"
"No, not really. Come sit, I'll keep watch."
You sat beside him, resting against the tree trunk and felt yourself finally being able to relax.
"I appreciate this, Kakashi."
His eye closed, indicating a smile, "I told you I'd look out for you, didn't I? Get some rest, I'll be here if you need me."
Kakashi went back to his book, so involved in the plot he missed the way your body shifted closer to him. He stopped reading when he felt pressure on his shoulder. He looked over, pink dusting his cheeks when he realized you had fallen asleep on top of him.
He shifted, back pressed against the tree as he let you get more comfortable against him. He barely moved, not wanted to disturb you. He ignored the feelings bubbling in the pit of his stomach, wanting to deal with those later.
Right now, he just wanted to make sure you were safe, with him.
