We were quietly having our dinner that was cooked by him.

He has some great cooking skills. His pottage, which is a ham, leek, and pea soup tastes amazing despite only having simple ingredients.

I was really  curious about what he said to me a moment ago, thus I initiated a conversation with him.

"H-How long have you been working as our townguard?"

"....For about 2 years?"

Two years? He said he wanted for us to see each other in the palace and I'm not dense to not know what he meant by that.

Clearly, he likes me. But is it possible to like someone with such a short amount of time?

"Excuse me, don't just judge my feelings towards you. I've already seen you in other villages even before I was stationed here."

I raised my eyebrows and gave him a doubting look.

"Are you my stalker?"

"No I'm not!"

He strongly denied that he slammed his hands on the table.

"Okay...calm down..." I chuckled and took a sip of my warm soup using a spoon.

"Then how come you worked as a town guard? You could have just lay low and lived a normal life. If you were banished you still got some money with you if I'm correct."

"You are right but it's because I have this urge to protect people."

"Is that why you helped me?" I asked next.

He removed his eyes on his bowl and shook his head. He looked at me with determination as if he was going to confess which he really did.

"That's one of the reasons but it's mainly because I've liked you for so long that I got crazy when I heard the knights talking about what the priests will do to you once you get captured."

It seems like he isn't lying, though I know he's sincere with every word he says to me.

"Can I ask? Why aren't you fazed that someone is confessing their love to you?" he sounded irritated, possibly he's thinking that I'm not treating him seriously.

"S-Sorry...I may be acting a bit ignorant but the truth is....It's the first time I received a confession...so I don't know what to react."

I meekly said while mixing the soup. I can see my reflection on it and I don't want to lift my head.

I looked like a damn tomato.

"Pfft-"

"Seriously? How old are you?"

I don't know if he's serious or not with his question or he's teasing me but I answered him anyway without locking our eyes.

"I'm 105 years old."

"Oh...you're thirty years younger than me..." I laughed at how random our topics were, from his work to our age.

What comes next?

Our family?

My smile quickly faded after mentioning those two words.

Because I don't have that.

"You're showing that expression again..." My eyes darted at him with his worried tone.

I flinched when he extended his arm and held my hand like it belonged on my palm.

With his small gesture, I got comforted but then got interested at what he meant by again.

"I already told you that we had a lot of encounters which you probably don't remember as it only lasted for a few minutes every once in a while. I first saw you fifty years ago at the port when I was banished and I freshly arrived at this land. You came to my attention because you were holding your map and crossing the land you had lived already. We rode the same ship but I lost sight of you since there were a lot of passengers and the ship was quite big."
