The Day of Hunting Event

Kana's POV

"I'm really really sorry Kaiser. It's all my fault."

Kao kept on apologizing on our way to the hunting ground by riding their carriage. I never had any experiences in hunting but I was invited also together with him. According to the imperial law, all of the male members of every aristocratic household must attend the hunting event. It's mandatory so everyone should participate.

Unfortunately, yesterday, Kao registered me as a legal family member of Wistals.

He was so excited that he forgot about the event.

So for the third time, I told him it's okay.

"I'll just stay with you during the hunt."

"Of course! It's dangerous because it is held in an unsupervised forest, there are demons and wild animals. Plus, the forest is known to play with people who enter the woods. It makes them lost in the forest and walk in circles. Some don't even come back and die from walking endlessly or from dehydration, coldness and starvation."

I don't know why but Kao is making me more nervous than ever. I'm already scared that I'll be hunting without prior knowledge of this survival event so why is he telling me all of this?

It's not like I'll go astray.

I'll obviously stick by his side no matter what.

"I-I'll take note of that.."

Around afternoon, we arrived at the hunting grounds.

It's a group of private islands owned by the imperial family in the south-west called Iceland. It's near Arzonia but we have a safe distance from the tribe because Arzonia forest is vast. It's as large as one continent so I'm not that worried that I'll cross paths with Leo again.

This island is called Iceland because of it's low temperature. It's my first time seeing snow and white mountains. The tip of those mountains are covered with snow and the forests are shrouded with cold fog.

It's indeed living up to its name.

Right now, we are at the entrance. It's a gigantic ruined gate in between two white statues of an armored person with wings and holding a spear and shield.

We looked like an ant next to it.

"Greetings Emperor." Kao suddenly bowed and I jolted when the Emperor walked from behind and went past me. I glanced back and there was Sir Suppasit following him. I looked down before our eyes met. The tension from the other day is still there and I can't help but shrink.

It would have been better if he treated me like an air instead of hating my presence.

As I ignored him, I saw his legs passing by but then he walked backwards until he's in front of me.

"I told you to keep your distance from me right?"

I didn't have any courage to lift my head nor answer him.

What did I do?

I turned around and hooked my arm to Kao and made his body straighten up.

"Can you show me where the swords are?" Sensing that I am too scared to face Suppasit, my brother nodded and looked back to the Emperor.

"Your highness, please excuse us for a while. I'll just show my brother around the vicinity."

"Sure. Take your time. All of you are not royal knights today but a representative of your households so you don't have to ask for my permission. Do whatever you want."
