Chapter 54 Underground Prison

"When did the imperial palace become a hospital?"

The emperor slammed the cup of tea on his office table. It's past midnight and all the servants were hysterical at the news of Suppasit jumping from the fifth floor. Luckily, Kao was able to fly down and grab his arm but the knight shoved him and he fell from the third floor instead, with the young Wistal's effort to save him, it lessened the distance of his fall and he didn't sustain major injuries. However, he fell down with his head first and his left forehead received a hard blow.

He passed out because of it and Kana is crying beside him. He didn't want the knight to be in the other room as he wanted to monitor him throughout the night.

"They're all giving me a headache." Mew massages his temples before taking another sip of his tea. It was Kao who reported the incident to him after asking the maids to call the imperial physician.

"Did he say he did it to meet the Goddess of this empire? He's going to the World Tree?" Kao nods in front of him.

"Haa. Give me a break. Can he consult me first before being reckless? What if he dies?!"

"Should we chain him up again?"

Kao suggested but Mew shook his head.

"No, let him get that branch to end everything at last. But the next time he acts rashly, I'll really lock him up."

The following dawn, Suppasit regained his consciousness.

He squirmed his body, which made Kana wake up.

".......Suppasit?" he asks, teary eyed.

If only he could move, he'll hug the knight in happiness.

"Shhh, don't wake them up. I don't like to hear them nagging first thing in the morning." Suppasit shushed him and brushed up Kana's hair that was covering his eyes.

"Are you going now?"

"Not yet, let me see your face before leaving."

"Hmmm? Did you cry a lot? I'm sorry it must have been traumatizing for you but I have to do it." He lands a kiss on Kana's cheek and the latter momentarily closes his eyes as Suppasit's lips touch his skin.

"If you're sorry, don't do that again.."

"Mmm, I will. This is the last time I'll risk my life except if you're in danger which won't ever gonna happen again. I promise." Kana nods and snuggles on Suppasit's neck. Uncomfortable, the knight lifted Kana's head and placed his arm under it so he could hug Kana comfortably.

"How many branches should I get?"

Suppasit asked, pushing Kana's face closer on his bandaged neck.

"Just one? Celestine said we can reuse it. I don't know if my father wants to be mortal again...I'll ask him when you return."

"Just one?"

"Yeah?"

"Now that I think about it, should I burn the whole tree? What if that woman takes you there again and kidnaps you to the other side..?"

Kana headbutted his chin to object.

"Don't do that. What if there's a side effect if you burn it down?"

"To be frank, there is. Once the World Tree is burned, the mana of the world will cease to exist. Not immediately but gradually in the next centuries it will be gone and everyone will be like humans. We won't have any abilities, and no one can use magic anymore. But at least if that happens, all of us will be powerless and only our physical strengths can be used for wars. But there may be instances that one or two people can still have abilities every generation but it would be classified as rare."
