Dreams pov
My eyes gradually begin to open from the bright lights being shined directly into them. As I slowly gain consciousness, they quickly widen the rest of the way. I start attempting to move, but am taken back, held down. When I finally look to my sides, my heart drops. I know these blank walls. I glance back infront of me in terror. The light to awaken me, was a simple flashlight.
"What the-"
"Oh, so you're awake I see?" Adjusting to the new darker surroundings, I see him.
"You." I show anger with expressions, still trying to break free from the chair.
"It's been a while, hasn't it." He chuckles. I look over to the small table the man's leaning against, seeing my mask. He looks down to know where I'm staring. "You're looking at the mask, aren't you? What even is this piece of trash?" He throws it to the ground. "I find it quite stupid that you think you could get out of this with the same mask twice." He starts stepping tword the tossed object, loudly crushing it under his foot. I freeze from the sight. "Now, what I find even more interesting, is why you thought escaping was a good idea. Hell, we could kill you right now."
A shiver shoots down my spine. I hold back any emotions from the statement, I can't show weakness. "But, we found something rather- interesting about you." My eyes shoot up. "Would you happen to know anything about the levels of the virus once you left?"
"I'm not telling you anything, you prick." I growl.
"I thought you might say that." He continues pacing. "Perhaps we don't need to hear anything from you to figure out this phenomenon." I scowl, clenching my fist hard. "At first, I thought you were just spreading the thing. I could never feel more impressed than when I saw those numbers rise. But, the math didn't add up. It was all wrong. How could every single state across America have lowered symptoms, less spread, while it's spiraling through the roof over in the UK, simply after the disappearance of you."
My jaw slightly drops, having a worried expression. "It was the first time anything like this has happened since before it was modified. Now, coincidences happen. They can happen everyday! Just as they happened while you were at the shop." He sticks his head in my face, proceeding to circle me after. "So, we took that as one. Obviously we were searching the drop still, but tried to find other ways. But when we saw the growth from your return, it shook us. Never seen anything like it."
He holds his head, laughing. "You- are causing something. You are the core to our project. We need you to continue this mayhem. You're the power- breed the intensity everywhere around you."
He pauses. "The science makes no sense in the present's technology, but we will find just how- this is happening. Nothing else- no other theory- seems remotely as close to correct as this one. The second we figure this out, you'll be going on a lot more trips to help our wish finally come true."
"You're sick." I finally talk back.
"I'm sick? Hah. You wouldn't understand, kid. I don't know what gave you the confidence to talk to me this way after all those years, but I don't like your new attitude." I begin to remember the reason for the way I'm acting now.
The moment I was out of there, I said I would never go back. I said I would fight it. I said it was the last time. I was going to save everyone left. But execution is always the more difficult part of most plans. For example, the confidence to speak back at such tough phrases. That confidence, came from George, actually. Seeing his situation has pushed me. Along with feeling that spark- It reminds me that I'm not fighting for just myself, but those I love aswell, everyone.
Just as the man was about to talk, he's stopped by a light glistening from the table. Taking a more careful look, I notice a phone, my phone. As he leans over to see what has appeared on the screen, I notice a small text from- oh no- 'Georgie ❤'. The text being, 'Please- please tell me you're okay if you see this.' He glances back to me.
"I-"
"Oh, who's this? Did you get yourself a whole partner in that short timespan of leaving?" I stay in place from the deep stare into my eyes.
"He's-"
"So they are a 'he'. Didn't think you were gay, or whatever. We can definitely help fix that though soon." My face goes pale.
"What the fuck do you mean."
"Woah, lay low on the language. We're doing you a favor. You should be thankful."
"If you lay one fucking finger on him you will seriously pay." I clench my fists harder, springing forward as close to him as I can be while struggling.
"Hah. Like you can do anything. How much do you like him? You love him? What are you exactly willing to risk?" I feel as if I'm boiling from the rage.
"I'm not telling you jack shit about him. You already have me here, isn't that enough?" The man begins to smile.
"You're right, I do have you back. But, we're going to need to keep it that way. You understand, right?" I freeze as he starts to lift the phone. "Can't have anyone trying to get you out of here." The faint sound of typing rings in my ears. "No password as well? This will be easy."
"What are you doing." I growl, wishing I had just taken that extra time to finish the device setup.
"Just sent your little 'friend' a message." He sets down the phone. I try to fight the cuffs. "Oh, do you want to see it?" He lifts up the phone once more, opening it back up. "Here, I'll even read it to you, 'I'm fine. Especially since I finally get a break from you'-"
"What was even the point of that?" I shout. "Give me my phone back!"
"I told you, I need to be sure you stay, and what's a better way of doing that then illuminating any possible source of help?" He chuckles. "Regardless, I know we could keep you here, even if they did come. Just giving the guards some slack." Everything he says fills my pit of rage closer to the top. I notice him typing once more.
"What are you saying now, psycho?"
"Hey, you know I don't have to tell you, right? And almost full control over your ending. I'd recommend taking a step back on what you say."
"If I had the power to step back right now I'd go forward first and beat the shit out of you." All of a sudden, I hear a gust of wind following with a painful mark. I sit in shock, shaking, facing the side from the full force hit.
"I said to step back." He starts to walk away. "My apologies for that. Won't slap you again, that'd be childish of me." The man then picks up a vile of some sort. "We'll be doing a few tests though, make yourself useful and try not to get in the way." Realizing it's blood he took while I was out cold. The man then looks away again, putting a hand in the air. "Gaurds," he begins to shout. "Please take subject one back to his proper room. And make sure he's not leaving." The old name leaves me in a new shock. It's all just settling in that I'm actually back in this- prison.
After a second passes, I start hearing the faint sound of multiple heavy footsteps coming closer. Eventually, I'm being held by my arms while getting uncuffed from the chair. Despite my struggles, they get me in a new pair of handcuffs.
How am I even going to escape? It's pointless, really. I listen to the commands, giving up, walking with my head straight down to the room. How am I supposed to help anyone- fix anything, if I'm trapped here.
Wait-
I think. That- could work. I don't know how I'll get my hands on it, but if it's the only way, I'll do it.
I hope I'm right.
